Well my truck is back from its little venture with a blown motor. Number 1 piston had a nice hole in it. Dodge says it's from the computer going bad and causing the timing to flake out. Either way warranty fixed it so im not upset But Now I Have some driving issues. They installed a new computer with the 97mph limiter that made me real mad. The truck also lacks a lot of power now when driving in the mountains. The tranny stays in 3rd gear and refuses to go any faster than 40 up hill with out reving the hell out of the motor. Any ideas why the trucks runs so bad on the hills. The computer does not have the AH flash listed on it but it feels like it might.

It should be just as powerfull and run just as good as when new. I would be asking allot of questions and raising hell.

One day I thought my 4.7 was missing. But then I popped the hood, and DAMN!!! there it was.

Sorry, couldn't resist!
My 4.7 from the factory was disappointing, in fact I almost returned the truck. The dealer guaranteed me that it would "loosen up" and feel like a different truck after about 5k miles. Just give it some time, dude, and you'll be exploring river bottoms again in no time!

He justs needs a performance PCM(I know none available) and to install his HO cams and he will be running good again. How much of your problems are tranny related?? I'm sure your tranny can't be too good anymore after what you did(I was there)

Something is not right. The trany should shift fine so either the PCM is bad or the data buss that connects them is corrupt. THe engine should run just like a new motor. You should not need to break it in to go up hill at a decent speed. The speed limiter is a different story. I would raise hell about lack of power and trany not shifting right. It should run just like it did off the lot new. While you might get 1-5 MPH more out of a 1/4 mile test once you have 20,000 miles on it that is about all you should ever see difference wise. 40 MPH up hill is pathetic!! I can do that with a two cylinder John Deere! Take it back and have the service writer ride along with you!!!

Well for now I will asume it will get better. I have well over 1500 miles on the new motor it runs great on the highway and perfect around town but once you put a hill in front of it she has a heart attack. Still stuck in 3rd gear at 40mph. I can race the motor and cruise all the way up to 60+ but if you try to drive (normal) shes a no go. thanks for the replies ill keep my hopes up.

Sounds like it's not kicking down... you need to have them check to see if the shift points are working right. Doesn't sound like they are (I don't beleive the 4.7 has a kickdown cable, it's all electronic, right?)

Heh. My dads old 2-cyl John Deer will do about 35... pulling a house. I'm telling you, cylinders the size of friken coffee cans!

As I said before, I think the tranny might be screwed up after his mudding incident. I was there and saw what he was doing to his truck. It wasn't pretty. I'm thinking it might be slipping which is causing his loss in performance.

A couple of things...brand new motors are tight as hell, but they should be putting out the same, if not a touch more HP untill they are broken in..they just produce more heat untill then. If you are having a problem with shifting AND your speed limiter has changed I bet they put the wrong program on your computer...i.e. a 2wd or manual engine program and it isn't meshing with the tranny computer that controls your shifting.

Well Dodge looked at the truck this morning said the Transmission is shifting as it should. There is no slipage that they could find, the tech says all the gears seem to mesh properly during a visual inspection. They replaced all the fluids and set me up for a computer check next week. There even curious becasue there are no codes poping. At least they are looking into it they couldnt drive the truck up a hill to verify it since there arnt any hills for 40+ miles
