Subject: 4.7 Dual Exhaust...HELP!!
IP: Logged

Message:
Alright, here's my plan, true duals - Headers (not sure which yet, seems like there are only shorties out there for the 4.7...) into 2.5" pipe with an H (or X pipe) into FlowMaster 40s and out the back with a somewhat "stock" look (except on both sides instead of the one...)
What do you guys think... I know I'm loosing bottom end, but keep in mind that I have a 100 shot NX kit coming soon and plans to beef up the engine and supercharge early next year... Will it be "too" loud without the cats? Do I want to eliminate them or just eliminate the precats and go with one hi-flow cat on either side. Would the 40 series Flowmasters be too loud? Would you guys go with an H pipe or a X pipe... Sorry for all of the questions, I just want to make an informed descision :-)

your plan sounds fine, if you dont what it to loud you can put a crossover tube3" and cheat a little on your placement of mufflers, try to get them closer to your motor and run the tail clear to the back the crossover should give you a little more top end. let me know if you change it because my 4.7 is starting to create a exhaust leak. i am going to put k&n airfilter hyp-chip and run some headers that connect under the motor install a temporary by-pass for cat and go with 3" all the way to bumber even though its 4by it should eat up a stock v-8 mustang thats my goal anyway, seeya mark

2.5 MAY be to big for duels let alone 3 inch duels all the way back unless your pushing around 400 something hp of course.DARCY i have heard that headers don't help out at all but if you get a supercharger and a 100 shot it should help out cause with the supercharger and 100 shot your motor will have to breath more.DAKOTADEMON said that true duels will not cause loss of bottom end,and i don't know what would be the best size duels to run with the supercharger and 100 shot but you might be able to run 2.5 but on my dakota 4.7 (bone stock)i'm going with the 2 inch duels maybe 2.25.

I have the set up you are talking about. ABSOLUTLY the 40 series will be real loud without the cats. (Mine is!) if you are concerned with volume get the 50 series.

I highly recommend this mod. I took a full second off of my G-tech times. I have a tandum x-pipe, allows you tom run both pipes down the same side.

Here is a pic of my JBAs and my x-pipe.

Thanks alot guys, I've also heard that headers aren't a huge improvment over the stock manifold, aparently it flows to within 2.2% of the efficiency of headers (forget where I read that...) but I figure with a supercharger and nitrous then I might aswell let it breath as much as possible...
Thanks again! I'll let you all know how it turns out, should be on early 2003!

The headers are not much of a gain, unless you get rid of those small 2" down pipes. that is why the dyno numbers are down on the headers.

I will post a picture tomorrow of the set-up on the truck.

Nice setup cudashoe. I've been hoping to get: JBA Header, xpipe, 2.5" mandrel bend true duals into a Spintech, dumped for a while now. I havn't found the the priority to do it yet, but I want to after my 4.56 swap.
