Subject: what's the consensus, is ho intake worth
IP: Logged

Message:
For all of you who first installed the cams then the intake, was the increased horsepower enough to justify the loss in torque...right now I'm leaning towards just the cams cause torque is what is fun (I don't really race just like to punch it now and again). Is there a signficant enough horsepower gain from the intake to make it fun on the streets or is it really just for the track?

I would just stay with the cams. I did both at the same time and regret it. Yes, it has more power now. I would rather have the factory intake on and have the torque even lower in the rpm range. Mine is an auto with 3.55 gears so I will probably put the factory intake back on so since I never really get to high in the rpm range.

I like my setup, did both at the same time. Runs like a bat out of hell. Definitly worth it. IMO

Got H.O. ?

I would recommend it Ian, it is a great easy to do cheap modification that responds well.

I am really happy with my Cams and Intake. The way I figure it with a cold air intake and the big 9" K&N filter lets get as much air through that engine as possible. If you are going to do cams it only makes sense to do the intake too so the cams can have all the air they need...along with a 3" exhaust and hi-flow muffler. I don't necesarily beleive all this hoopla about the cam giving you more torque and the intake robbing it (or vice-versa..whatever) they are designed to work with each other.

I got boat loads of torque, a really hi peak power, it revs higher, it gets to the higher rpms quicker AND it seems to have given me 10% more mpg....do them both, you won't regret it!

You must do both to fully realize the potential of the HO Cams. If you don't, you're wasting the top end of your power band. Plus, look how much quicker the RPM's build. More power and better efficiency. How can that be bad?
