I am new to this page and have searched through the previous postings and am still confused about tires sizes. I have a 99 Dakota, V8, 4X4. The stock tire and wheels size are 31x10.3x15. I was wondering if I can put on 33x13.5x15 without any modifications. BTW, I heard alot of people mention torsion bars. What are they and what is their purpose. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

The stock tires are 31x10.5-15 on 15x8 wheels. I had 32x11.50-15's on these stock wheels on my '99 and had a slight rub on the frame. I cranked the torsion bars to level truck and made steering stops to prevent the rubbing. I don't see any way possible to get 33's on there without some sort of lift. Even with a body lift you will still get some frame rub. I would stick with 32's or smaller if I were you. Torsion bars are your front springs. They are adjustable in height, but this also affects the spring rate. It will cause the truck to ride stiffer and too much adjusting can damage them. It also affects the front wheel alignment (caster, camber, toe). Don't over do it on adjusting the torsion bars. It will cause abnormal wear on several parts, including tires. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

So do you think I'll have any problems with putting on 31x12.5x15?

I think that size should be alright, if you keep the stock wheels. An aftermarket wheel will usually have different backspacing and offset and will usually make the tire rub. I was considering putting on BFG 325/60-15's on mine before I decided to put 17" R/T wheels on it. This is real close to a 31x12.50 tire. If you want a all-terrain tire, I highly recommend the BFG A/T KO. This is a great tire on and off road, and looks good too. I've had 5 sets of the BFG's in the past, and currently have Yokohama Geolander A/T+II's. The Yoko's are as good as an all-around tire, but they wear extremely fast. I prefer the BFG, but don't make the size I need, so I have to compromise. There are some other companies that make a 31x12.50 that are good, as well. The BFG's are kinda' high. Hope that helps.
