Well, i've had an auto now for about 47k miles. Do i like the auto? Its nice. Do i wish i had gotten a stick. YOU BET YOUR TRUCK I DO! There's alot of goods and bads out there about the auto. Some people say they are bulletproof and amazing trannys. Now, i have to agree, its alot nicer than some of the autos i've driven, but mine (remember, this is about my truck, not everyone elses), is about to blow up. I crawled under there the other day, and sure enough, there was tranny fluid around it. Not enough to drip on the ground, and it seems to not be losing very much (i check it regularly). What am i going to do about it? Nothing, im waiting for that day when i floor it and i see parts fly out from under my truck. Why? I NEED A 5-SPEED! My auto feels like crap when it shifts, it doesnt know how to pick a gear it seems, and it doesnt seem to agree with my supercharger. Now comes the question, how would i go about swapping out for a 5-spd. Im pretty much waiting for the auto to frag it self, then i'll purchase a used NV3500 (HD?) and figure out how to convert my truck. My cousin has a new Diesel Ram he's swaping over to stick, and he says its a pain in the @ss. I understand its going to be alot of work, but thats the best part. I love ripping apart my truck and finding more stuff to break. Anyways, what do you guys think? Is it truly possible? Am i nuts? Should i just give my truck away to some one and buy a Moped? I've tried to find some websites out there about swapping, but i havent found anything. Well, thanks in advance. :)

Years ago, many many years ago...I shoved a BOSS 302 into a 74 Pinto (go ahead and laugh now, get it over) But that little pony flew! Along with many many other mods (like subframing etc) too many to list here..I converted the engine over to a auto from a manual. The opposite of what your doing. Got rid of the flywheel, of course, and added the torque converter for the tranny I was using (C4)...it worked good, but a freind of mine back then told me it wouldn't work...something about the cam. Years later a freind did what you are doing, and his car (Mustang 5.0) never really worked right. It stumbled off the line and loaded up at high speeds, even had a flat spot in the power curve. Didn't make sense, lean at on point, rich at others. We finally partially fixed the problem with carb adjustments and jets but the whole time that cam question was in the back of my head. Something to think about.

If you gotta a little cash on you, and you feel like driving to Florida, Marty at KRC can set you up with a Tremec 5-spd. That'll hold all kinds of power and it'll shift even better than the infamous 3500.

What i would give to drive to florida, thats a vacation i could go for. Go hang out with Marty and work on the truck. :) Hmm, i think i'll send him an email and see how much an estimated cost would be. I dont personally have the money, but between my credit card and the bank, i bet i could get something going. :)

Wouldn't you need a PCM from a 5-speed truck? Maybe not, but you never know with all the sensors that have now days.
