Is it my imagination...or did I gain mpg with the HO cam/intake manifold? Its been a couple (3) tanks of gas since the new install and I swear I gained 10% mpg....I used to get about 250 miles per tank, now about 275. Has anyone else noticed it?

360AirIntakez, cold air box/deflector, Ported TB, IAT Adj. Optimized TPS, Jeep HO cam/intake, 180 thermo, indexed 3923s, 3" SS exhuast w/ Bullet SS muffler and a 4" SS Tip, in a 2001 4.7L AWD CC.

Where those miles divided by the same # of gallons at each fillup.

cheez, these 'per tankful' things crack me up.

Well Dr.

mpg?

I think I see an improvement with my cams, don't know any mpg's though.

I remember hearing some guys say the cams increased the mpg but the intake manifold brought it back down again, can anyone verify this, if so I'm just getting the cams

i have a 2001 4.7 durango 4x4 and got 13.5 MPG. I installed the HO CAMS and a 360 intake. no other mods and i still get about 13.5 MPG. I also drive very nicely. Hardly any WOT or above 60MPH.

i did the HO intake and cams, and i found what a lot of people said on this site about the cams and intake to be false, by truck digs in acceleration from 1500, and pulls all the way through 5k, as well, if i drive normally, my mpg went wayyyyyy up, i'll give you some numbers after this tank and yes i'll divide miles by gallons pumped. the only thing i can think is that i have 3.92's and a manual...dunno, maybe some people didn't break in their cams properly or something...i dunno...also this whole thing with pinging and timing i had no problem with, and i did the install by myself. for 230.00, and no cost for labor, i'd say by far the cams and intake are the best bang for the buck, i'm gonna dyno it in a month or so too. the cams and intake put my trucks street performance above stock. just a very long winded $.02

dweishaar, did you install the cams and intake seperate? cause if you did them at the same time, you'd notice big gains all across the board from 1500RPM and up. But if you did the cams seperate (first), you'd notice HUGE gains in TQ in the bottom end (well huge as in ~20-30ft.lbs). When you do the intake, you'd lose about half of that low down power, but you're still well over the stock configuration so it still pulls hard.

I still haven't heard of anyone doing the intake first ... that would be interesting.

I gotta agree with Dweishaar...thats exactly what I'm seeing. As for Texas Todd, lets me fill in the blanks...I always fill it up, usually the same place, so my number of gallons starting is approximately the same. I estimate total miles also fairly consistently...my little gas light comes on when I have 45 miles left, and it used to come on around 200-205 miles-fairly consistently, now it comes on at 230ish. Now I know its only been three tanks, and I could always figure the exact mpg (about 14-the wife does it on a spreedsheet that covers our whole financial life, bless her heart) but so far it seems pretty obvious that there is about 10% increase in mpg! And, power thru the whole spectrum...like Dweishaar said! For the low cost and easy install, I'd say this mod will pay for itself in 80 weeks...at a tank a week, $30,$3 per week (10%)gas savings, cost was about $240 for cam & intake.......I think thats right.
Canucker-Thats interesting, but I too did cams and intake at once (why take apart your engine twice) and I got boat-loads of torque gains...as well as hi-revving power and, it gets to the hi-rpms quicker.

Gotcha Dr.,

I think I'll have to spring for the intake also soon. I've just done the cams thus far, with good results.

I really liked the idea of gaining the torque with the cams but I may spring for the combo if it does in fact raise mpg. Basically my dak is just my daily driver, but every now and then I like to punch it, if some one was to rev up on me at a stop light what would get me a faster 0-60 time, just the cams, or the cams intake combo?

I have never taken 0-60 times, but all I can tell you my passing acceleration has really increased...like 50 to 90 is really quick now! Do the intake too! Its well worth it, only $120-130 bucks and you get all the bragging rights even if your times don't change (but I bet they will).

okay...the results are in...with this last tank driving 30 miles roundtrip highway for 3 days and the rest being made up on city driving.....i got 14.3 mpg. my personal best with the old engine setup and the truck lifted was 13.8......all highway (roadtrip). as of those numbers and an unfair compairison, i think its roughly a 7.5% mpg increase, and thats low siding it A LOT.
