I am about to order a 5.9L, 4x4 Quad Cab, however, I have some concerns about getting at oil filter and plugs and anything else I might want to attack in there. What is the scoop?

There is that but they are not even as bad to get the plugs out of compared to the 4.7, oil filter isn't as messy.

They are individual coils, one per cylinder.

Hey CW, The little black square things right above the injectors, are those the individual coils, it makes sense there are 8 of them, also if those are the coils, I'm assuming the spark plugs are down below the coils. what steps are to be taken to get to the plugs. I'm not a moron when it comes to workin on a vehicle but I've never worked on the 4.7L before

Take the air hat off 2 10mm bolts and 2 clamps on the throttle body and air box. I think there is a bolt for the heater lines that go across the intake on the right side so you can move them around. Unplug each coil and remove the 10mm nut holding the coil down and pull stright up on the coil. It pops right out of there.

Then get a 8" exention and a 5/8 spark plug socket and you will be able to get in there pretty good. Except for #8 I think you need a shorter extention. I have done only a couple of tune ups on the 4.7 but there will be more in the future, now that they are getting to be a couple years old.

They are called COPs(coil over plug). Pretty much an industry standard now days. I was very disappointed that they are not on my '02 5.9 . Distributer? Come on Dodge !! Not even DIS! Could be the reasoning behind the rough idle.
