Just wonder if anyone, anyone knows whether I can put another tranny in my 91 dakota extended cab. Has an A500 in it now, local tranny shop wants $1500 plus+ to rebuild it, "On DRUGS?" Checked all boneyards and none have an A500, but have 727's and such. Can I use other trans?/ Please!!! help!!!!

you can but will need a longer driveshaft.
the A500 is basically a 727 with an overdrive..... are you sure you want to loose that 4th gear?

well is it a 4x4? I had a 91 4x4 that lost 3 trannies in 4 months and each one of the A500's had to come from a 90 or a 91. I am not sure why exactly but they did. I have two A500's for 2wd's I would sell. One needs to be flushed but the other is good to go. I pulled both of them from 89 2wd Daks with v6's. I live near Seattle though.

How much for either one? Where is it located "shipping purposes", I was considering buying the heavy duty rebuild kit from JC whitney or Phoenix Transmission, but Ive never dug into an automatic before. Actually, I'd probably rather go just for the "known" good one. Im near Tampa Florida, actually New Port Richey, zip, 34654, If not to far, Id come get it for right price

Have you considered buying one from a parts store? AutoZone, Adavanced and Discout inmy area sell re-man trans and engines. You might also consider buying a rebuild kit yourself and a unit repair manual.

actually an A500 is a 904 with overdrive, the A518 is a 727 with O/D.

Well seeming that you are way down in flordia and I am up here in Washington it would seem the Autozone idea would be the most reasonable. But I was asking $250 for the good one and $100 for the core. My zip is 98201 if you still want to check out a shipping price for yourself.

My A500 was rebuilt and its pretty sweet now. We got a rebuild kit from a company called transtar. It was about 1500 bucks.
