you only need to change the fluid according to the service manual that came with your truck, or if you get water in the fluid (most often from offroading)

just check the case and both differential fluids every time you change the oil to keep out of trouble

just so you know, the transfer case in your truck is a NV233HD - the drain plug should be easy to take out, although if you want to check the fluid in the transfer case, you should use the test port that is right at the top fluid level (like the plug in a diff)

Yes, You should still change out your T/Case fluid. All power to your RR wheels must go through the T/Case at all times so it still is critical that the lubricant be cared for. Follow you owners manual and you will be fine. You should be useing one of the following three lubricants. Redline C+ Synthetic ATF, Amsoil Synthetic ATF,or OEM ATF+4. Your T/case will take about 1.2 quart if it is anything like the 231.

Just checking the oil level in T-case at fill hole isn't enough. Think about it, oil floats on water, so if there's water in T-case, it will be at the bottom!

You don't have to use +4 fluid in the transfer case. You can use Dexron/ Mercon III.

if theres water in the fluid, and you check it after driving, the fluid will be all foamy

so drive for a bit - then check to make sure the fluid is up to the check port, is clean (free of debris and not cloudy or smelly) and not foamy

if it doesnt pass these tests, replace it - i would reccomend the OEM fluid as reccomended by the dealership, especially if you are still under warranty

and if its close to time to do it according to the service manual, do it anyways

You know when you go to Jiffy Lube and those guys try to sell you everything except a freakin hand job? If one said yes to everything they tried to sell you'd come out of there about $600 bucks lighter in the wallet. My point is that even those friendly snake charmers don't recommend it for your transfer case for like 80k miles. So if those dudes don't recommend it for 80k, its probably ok to go 100k! Now me, I'm extra cautious when it comes to motor fluids, so I'd do it at 70k.
