Expect the same engine lineup with the addition of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 for the R/T version.

It could just be that i am way behind on this whole thing any ways if am just ignor this post.

Ehh in the past couple weeks I've heard the R/T will have a new HO 4.7L, a 5.7L hemi, a 6.1L hemi....

I'll believe whatever it ends up having, when I can see the motor IN the bay.

Except that Edmunds has been right on in their last 10 new engine releases for new model vehicles. They even guessed that Honda would either put the Acura 3.2L V6 or a higher performance version of their tried and true 3.0 V6 to compete with the new 3.5L 240HP Altima/Nissan V6. What happened? Honda used the tried and true 3.0L V6 and bumped it up to 240 HP, and it still uses regular unleaded gasoline. They guessed right on the Jetta and Beetle engines as well (1.8T and VR6). They also guessed right on the Subaru WRX. The list can go on and on. Do a little more research on Edmunds and you'll see what I'm talking about. Those guys know their proverbial sh!t.

i just read in sport truck mag that they are downsizing the dakota for the next gen so im thinking the 4.7 would probably be what they go with. this is in the same article that talks about dodge basing the next durango on the ram instead of the dakota. 10 inch longer wheelbase and bigger than the present version.

stranger things have happened so i guess we will have to wait and see.

They can't downsize the Dakota because the Durango shares too many parts (including the platform) with it. Since they are not making a larger SUV (like the expedition or Tahoe), they can not afford to downsize the Dakota/Durango series. It'll just be revamped. Look at the past changes to the Dakota. They tend to follow a pattern...

No that is changing, the Durango is getting a bigger platform and it will be unique. They were going to use the new platform for the Dakota as well but then the dakota ended up being about the same size as the 2001 ram, just a little smaller then the 2002. So they cancelled the redesign which lead everybody around here to think that ment they were cancelling the Dakota outright. That wasn't right either as they just dropped the design they were working on and have now started a new design for the Dakota. Lots of people are also thinking that new M-80 concept is the new Dakota platform but it is not. The M-80 is going to be the new compact Dodge pickup (like the old Ram50 imported from Mitsu). So they new Durango will come fairly soon and look like the Powerbox concept, then a year or so later there will be a New Dakota that nobody really knows what it will look like yet, and possibily before them all there will be the new M-80 based compact on the market. Putting the Dakota off till last is actually a good thing. There is a much better chance that way that they will put the 5.7 in the current body (which is tough to beat looks wise IMO). If there was going to be a completely new Dakota coming out in a year or two you could safely bet that they would just wait for the redesign to drop the Hemi in there. I'm not sure DC is certain what their plans are yet, things change and it may just depend on how the new car market is going and what is or isn't selling well.

When i went to the dealership to ask about a hemi in a 1500 ram i got laughted at too. Then the press realease came out they called me back and said that it could be done but it will have to be a special order. So i ordered one with a 5.7l,A 3.92 rear with a 5 speed auto tranny, in flame red with 20 in chrome wheels.I could not get it in the st.It had to be an slt because it had to be anti-lock brakes. This truck should really fly and best of all it is cheaper than a dakota R/T.I hope that the hemi does go into the R/T because in my oppion they need all the help they can get.250 horsepower is not enough for me.Does anyone know how long it should take to get my 2003.5 1500 ram?

Did you mean you can't get the 5.7 in the ST because YOU personally wanted anti-lock brakes? The 5.7 is available in the ST according to the Dodge "build your Ram" website. I know you can't order the 20's on the ST but I thought you could get 4 wheel antilock, and I know you can get the 3.92 LS on the ST as well. I'm sure you will love the SLT with the 20's though, I was just going to try and save the $4000 more the SLT adds!

I have the paper to work to prove you can get the 5.7 in ST trim - but you HAVE TO HAVE 4 wheel antilock disc brakes. It comes w/the engine upgrade.

You should be getting your truck in early January,,,if you live in Texas that is!!!! We always get our trucks early. Alot of people from surrounding states have been driving in order 4 door Rams w/the Hemi,,to get them sooner. I'll be ordering mine as soon as I can get my '01 Dak off my hands!

Actually I have yet to see a Hemi 2500 series with the 5-speed, all the orders for trucks equiped that way are on indefinate hold as well. I think they are having 2nd thoughts about making the Hemi with the 5-speed unless they can come up with some other transmission besides the nv-4500.

Hersbird,Stop man!! You are scaring the crap out of me with the indefinate hold stuff. Please tell me that i can get the 5 speed auto behind my hemi in the 1500. My heart skipped a couple of beats after i read your post. The dealers said nothing about the plant not being able to do that. Are you only referring to the 2500 or does that pertain to the 1500 also?

I was fooling around on there website the other day seeing what you could get the hemi in and all I came up with was the 2500. Jumped on it tonight and boom you can get it in the ST and yes it took away the standard and left me with the 5-45RFE 5spd auto. But I left it with no frills and it priced out to 21,430. And a short bed that thing out to be a real Street stormer.

I am building my own 5.7 Hemi truck. It is a five window 1950 on a new Dakota chassis.
There is a group in Mena, Ark. called Hot Rod Lane that already has the new 5.7 Hemi. They build there own intake manifold for electronic fuel injection. After Jan. O3, they will have a super charged version mated to a Mercedes electronic 5 speed automatic. To inquire just clic on Hot Rod Lane. com

I've asked both my dealer and inquired to the corporate office if this might be a possibility and i can't get a straight answer from anyone. so far it looks like it is a definate possibility. we should expect something big from the 2004 dakotas because dodge is trying there hardest to keep everything on the down low.

I am leaving at noon today to go up there to see them. I'll comment on my findings when I return.
