My 91, 2WD, 318 drops in and out of OD while cruising around 35-40 MPH. Once and awhile it will downshift while decelerating. Any sugesstions?? The tranny was reciently rebuilt so I doubt its the problem.

I have a '92, so I'm not sure if yours is the same. In my dakota, the speed sensor that is mounted on the transmission is used by overdrive and also the cruise control. If it starts acting up, quick try using the cruise. If it keeps working, then I doubt its the sensor and anything related to the sensor. I've had to replace mine twice already. Recently I've been having an intermittent drop out of overdrive. I raised it up at work and played around with the wires that go to the sensor looking for a short or chafed wires, but didn't find anything. Then ever since that day, it's been fine.

I was also told to check out the throttle position sensor on the TB. This could be causing the same condition. Thanks so far.. but ill keep posting my results..
