I removed the 4.7V8 out of my truck and swapped it out for a V6. Wow, what an improvement! I didn't even know I could do that. Thanks to all the posts that helped me out!

I am hopeing that this person reversed his numbers??? That is like tradeing in a Super Model, Nyphomanic, betty crocker, home maker that want's to bear and raise your children for some bar hag that smoke a carton a day and wont put out!!! It just is not right and does not make any sense!!!!! Please Explain and this time do not forget the trip to the mental hospital as I am sure it will help explain things!!!!!

I was just going to guess he was from the Republic of California. The natives their just are not quite right!!!! The transplants hold on to some sanity but eventuly they get brain washed too!!!! hey Lesley, where can I get some good info on a V8 swap? I remember you talking about it before in a previous thread. I went to www.engine-swaps.com but I didn't see anything for a Gen III.

I looked there too - I don't think they make kits for gen III. Most of the info I have is from guys on dodgetrucks.org who have done the swap - no way am I actually going to do it myself though. My mechanic has done several gen II and a couple of gen III swaps. So far, I have the mopar pcm, and new rear end gears and a posi. The tranny should also be upgraded, ours will work, but for how long. The rad has to be upgraded too, and it will need new motor mounts. Then - there is the wiring harness to figure out. My motor came with it, it just has to be matched up, and hopefully it's all compatible. I'm also going to try to get some R/T front springs from ebay. I have a friend with a comp cam I'm interested in, and I want to put headers on it while it is out of the truck. Hopefully, I'll be able to get it put in next summer. I'll document everything and post all the info here.

I'll do the same...I'm plannin mine for around December...does you know what the manual transmission part# is for the 5.2L? I just want to compare with the V6. The only other thing I'm worried about is all this talk on how weak the 8.25 rear's are on our trucks...I'm hoping it will hold up ok. I'll probably be installing my powertrax at the same time so we'll see how that all works out. I just got to get a lsd carrier and some free time to get that put in.

I don't know much about manual trannies. I know that I want to upgrade from the 42 to the 46 automatic. Check out this ebay link for an Arizona company that sells rebuilt trannies.

If I could find something like that here, that's how I would go. They do core swaps too.
As for the rear, I would really like to upgrade to the 9:25 also, but I'm not sure what problems that would pose - would it bolt right on? Would the driveshaft have to be changed? I've been told that unless I plan to drive the living crap out of it, mine should be okay. I got a great deal on brand new, still in the package 3.92s, and a posi carrier off ebay with only 42,000 miles on it, so I think that will do. It sure helps that you are able to do the work yourself, I have to budget for that too. Some of the engine work I want to do myself, but I have to be realistic too - I sure don't want to phuck up my truck while learning. :)

I new a guy once that had the V8 in his truck die, so a buddy of his gave him a V6 he had laying around, cause the guy was broke. So, he ended up pulling out his 8 and put in a 6.
That would be a valid reason for swapping like that. I dunno, just my .02

Yup. The new motor came with the compressor and condenser, actually it came with everything except the fan. Anyone need a 98 5.9 Cherokee PCM? :)
