Subject: 4.7 Gaskets (part numbers?)
IP: Logged

Message:
I was at a dodge dealer today looking into getting head gaskets so I have them when I replace my heads. They have an upper gasket set (intake, valve cover, head) listed, but thats it. Someone told me there was also an MLS gasket or something of that sort that I had to get seperately. I also understand that all the gaskets except the head gasket are reusable. Anyone got any advice? Do the MLS gaskets not exist? If so, whats the part number? Should I get all the other gaskets anyhow, just to be safe? Is there a better (cheaper) place to get the gaskets than a dealer? Thanks.

I am sure you can get the head gaskets separately. They probably want to sell you the upper gasket set because that is what they have in stock. I would kick my parts managers ass if he tried that.

The MLS gaskets you refer to are Multi Layer Steel. They are a very strong gasket IMO.

Doh! CW, you might know this - I'm going to swap heads, I'm going to need exhaust manifold gaskets too right? I've got my head bolts, and the exhaust gaskets are on order. Now all I need to do is get hold of Jonas and get the MLS gaskets.

I wonder if Jonas dyno'd those EHO cams today.....

Yeah I saw that you were going to do that. Wish I had your money;). It would really help my truck to free up the heads. Oh well I will just have to keep playing with my modified intake manifold.

The money is just a matter of setting some aside for it every time you can afford to - some here, some there - it doesn't hurt that we've had some big money business of late since my pay is a percentage of gross take for the company. Keep a good cushion, spend what you need, and play with the rest. Sure you could horde it, but you only live once :)
