Subject: M-1 Intake Question
IP: Logged

Message:
A friend of mine told me about this site, so I'm hoping that someone will answer my question. I'm currently working on putting a M-1 Intake on my 92 Dakota. After reading the torque specs on the intake bolts, I'm a little worried that 12 ft-lbs of torque isn't enough to properly seat the intake. Why only 12 ft-lbs? I've set intakes on "other" non Mopar engines and they are torqued a lot higher than this intake.

In fact I read another post about the off-idle stumble, stating that it could be attributed to the gaskets not properly seating. Wouldn't a higher torque rating seat the intake better?

Thanks...this web site rocks!!!!

I don't have the experience to dispute you, but I do have a 94' with an M1 and I torqued it to the provided specs. I had no sealing probloms(that I know about), but I thought the number was kind of low too. But like I said, I haven't had any probloms to speak of yet.
By the way, welcome to the site. Can never have to many older daks on here. We have to try and balance out the numbers.

The torque spec is correct. With good gaskets, you shouldn't have to torque the intake down a lot, and I've heard over torqueing them coudl cause the heads to seperate from the block due to the design. My factory bolts weren't very tight when I took them out. Half of them were just hand tight and I didn't even need to use the wrench on them.
