Use the same gap as factory unless you have a custom ignition system. I think it is .040, look at the sticker under your hood.

Just wondering, did you buy these for a reason? I purhcased them for my '01 4.7 for spark knock (pinging) and they did NOT help however I have heard some people say that they DO help.

Anyway, just wondering if there was a prob. you were trying to fix with the 3923's

Good luck

Steve, did you verify those are the correct Autolite application for your truck? If I recall, the correct Autolite sparkplug is the 5224 for the 4.7 engine.

At any rate, kudos to you for purchasing the finest set of sparkplugs money can buy! You are well on your way to joining the growing number of motorists benefiting from Autolite performance.
Marvel at how much more quickly your truck starts in the morning. Be wide eyed in awe at the smoothness of the idle. Grin with contentment as you pass service stations as you won't need to fill up as often. Watch your whole mood improve when you press the accelerator to the floor and whooooooosh....you notice much improvement in the performance of your engine.

Remember, when it comes to sparkplugs, Autolite is second to none. And no matter what automobile you drive, you are always right when you use Autolite!

Good night!

Put 3923's(gapped to factory setting) in my wifes 02 4.7 Dak with less than 1K on it and notice an instant improvement in idle over my 01 4.7 Dak with Splitfire's gapped 3/10th's over factory which had improved my idle some also. When my Splitfire need replacing will go with Autolites and pay $5 less a plug, lol.

All I really got was a smoother idle from the 3923s too. Certainly didn't hurt anything though.

What I had found running the 3923's in the 4.7 is that the gap erodes quick. The first time I re-gapped was after 3k miles when idle started to suffer. The gap had opened up to over .050" on 3 of the plugs. I then regapped them after another 1k miles. After this I chqanged tehm out for Bosc +4's ( I know not recommended by the factory) and it runs great and has for the last 40k+ miles....

Have you tried gapping them from the side? It's been about 1500 or 2000 miles on mine so far and I havn't noticed anything unusual, but I'll keep aneye out for it.

I am running the 3923's also, installed mine same time I reloacated the IAT sensor and changed to 180* thermostat and noticed the difference in idle, sound, peppiness and overall performance almost instantly.

I drive 30 miles each direction on Interstate 95 each day for work and I do see a 1-3 mpg difference on my overhead display depending on the speed of traffic.

Wanting to go HO cams but think I sacrifice MPG and at 60 miles per day for work alone, I need the best MPG I can get.

I am not planning on changing out my +4's... I loved the autolites in my old 3.9 but on my 4.7 I gotta have my +4's...
