I have a spare 50 series, 3 chamber and I am wondering what it would sound like on my 4.7L 5spd. If anyone has either a cat back flowmaster kit or a simple muffler swap what is sounds like? I just want some more sound out of my exhaust until I decide whether to buy a catback or do a custom dual application. I'd prefer it if your truck was a manual, to better match the sound I would have. Thanks, any thoughts are welcome. Also what size is the stock pipe, I think my muffler has a 2.25" inlet.

The exhaust should be a 2.5" on your truck. I have a original 40 series on my truck, I think. It is quite quiet not that noticable at idle but when you get on it you can hear it pretty good. I like it that way. It has a very deep rumble. Very nice sound I think.

I have the original flowmaster 40 as well. Single in, dual out...sideswept. And a 5 speed. Nice throaty "don't mess with me" sound. I drive through my neighborhood at 4 a.m. most mornings. Never had a complaint. They can always hear me coming home, however.

I just had my new exhaust put on last week. it starts at the y-pipe with a full single 3" in, dual 3" out flowmaster 40 series muffler. sideswept with 3" chrome tips. Its pretty loud due to the deleted 3rd cat. I have heard that all flowmasters have that flutter sound as you decelerate but that doesnt bother me too much. Its a plus to the exhaust if your truck is a 5spd so you can control how loud it is when you accelerate and decelerate . I love it though, people in traffic dont expect to hear that kinda noise from a plain lookin dakota like i got.

Hey Quik 95,
Could you also send me that .wav too?
I've got a 2 chamber on my '01 4.7. Wanna hear what the difference might have been.
Thanks,

You've got mail! When I first installed the 50 series it sounded excatly like stock, if not quieter.....I was pissed :( About 50 miles later it finally came to life! To tell you the truth I don't notice any difference between my 4.7 with the 50 series or my buddies 4.7 with the 40 series. They both have a nice deep rumble.

Also if anyone else is insterested I have posted a the .wav file on my site, here is the address.

dk,

That is my new truck! I traded in my 2000 Dakota 4.7 CC 4X4. That is where the sound clip came from. So far I love the new Ram. I already put a flowmaster on the Ram, I don't have a sound clip yet, but it sounds almost identical as my Dakota did.

Sounds pretty sweet. Though I'm quite happy w/my 2 chamber Flowmaster,,,It's hard to tell from a .wav file,,but I think mine is a smidge louder,,,but sounds pretty much the same....Mean.
Thanks man

I got mine put on yesterday. Single in single out 3" 2 chamber exiting behind the right tire, not much power difference(if any at all). The sleeper efect just went out the window, but it's worth it for the sound. By the way it cost me $150 in the local muffler shop.

I have my dak lowered 3-6, I have only a single
in/out Dynomax, but so far, no problems. I
also had the stock pipe changed to 3", and it
hasnt hit yet. Im sure if I C-notched my frame,
the extra wheel/axle travel would make a nice
ding in the pipe though. If you want to go lower
than that, I recomend exiting before the rear
tires, or putting turndowns before the rear
axle.
