You need to answer a few questions and determine what you want to build before you start the swap. I have swapped 350's in S-10's but not in Dakota's. However, the principles are the same. You need to determine what hardware needs to be installed (ie. motor mounts, engine hardware, headers and the radiator). It will serve you well to look at a new V6 and V8 Dakota on the lot and get an idea of what the engine bay is supposed to look like. The most important thing is to not rush this if you want it done right. Sorry for the long post.

if you are going to keep it fuel injected, the easiest way is to find a wrecked dakota and put em side by side. that way all parts are readily available(saves alot of trips back and forth to the salvage yard).
if you are going carbureted schumacher creative services has mounts(small or big block) and tech tips on this swap.

since you are going through the trouble of the swap i would suggest going to a 8

look man. i just swapped my 318 for a 360. i think youre going to need motor mounts and a few other things. but i'll tell you what i did. i bought a crate mpi 360ci short block. i got all the other things like a new torque conv(must have) oil pump, water pump, and a few other things. its pretty simple and definatly worth it. but i would recommend having someone else do it for you. i was in the shop eveyday, and was so thankful i wasnt doing it. for labor they only charged me $980. not too bad. its really fuking bad! youll be happy!
