You wouldnt want your child to be happy or use his/her imagination just because you make alittle over 200 thousand a year. How dare a parent reward his or her child because there child has done everything right."

You guys are missing the point. There are 2 diff types of children... The preps that go to school are praised by there teachers and society for nothing more than wearing a shirt that says "Abre Crombie and Fitch" then they go onto some Ivy league school and do crack, sleep around, and drink all of the time... These are the kids that you guys are thinking of when you think spoiled.

You forget about the kids that go to school everyday, get decent grades, stay away from drugs, stay out of trouble, stay away from the bottle, and dont sleep around. In todays world that is quite commendable so I see absolutely nothing wrong with rewarding a kid for all of that.

There will be plenty of time for a child to work after college or highschool. You spend 95% of your life working couldnt you atleast spare him from the burden during his/her's childhood?

Thats the problem right there, alot of bad influences in the work place... Joe Blow, who is 30 years old, does nothing but sit at home drink and smoke and lives in a one bedroom apartment, on the days he doesnt sleep passed noon he goes into work to share his filth with 13 year olds who's parents think they have to teach there son or daughter the value of a dollar at such a rediculous young age. Then the parents will wonder where they went wrong when they find out there lil jimmy got sally preganent at a keggar party last week all because they spent a couple hours at some slop house pulling in minumum wage while working along side Joe blow.

Well, All i have say is I got good grades, stayed away from drugs, the bottel, and parting. I aslo was s good Kid, and was home at my Curfue at 12 and did my chores. I also like to dress, Nice or Prepy if you will. I wear Structure/Express, AF, AE. Nothing is wrong with that. NO and nothing is wrong with perents helping a kid buy a car that they can use.

But the real problem is the fact that is is new. And he did Jack sh!ht for it. Yea I bough my Dakota, got a 3.56 in school. I was also active in school plays and Band. SO sh!t i worked ever damn minute of my life. I leaned a he!! of a lof from it and i still am. I have a lot of pride that some one that just got handed there car would not. your have a totle diffrent aprecation of what you buy then something jsut handed to you. I Pay for my truck, school(college), and Insurence. I also take 17 hours and work 25 a week. SO dont give me yout rich kid and poor kid working hare crap.

I hope that that that QC is taken car of and he aprecates what his mom and dad did for him, i have friends that were give there cars. But I still feal the same. But best of luck to you and hope you keep it nice. As for the guy with the stero typing the rich kids. Good thing they sold it before you rebuilt it, or you would have really wasted some money.

I despize rich kids because I wasn't. I was abandoned by my mom when I was 13, continued to go to school and work 2 1/2 jobs a week until I was 16 and got the state courts to emancipate me so I could take the GED exam and go into the Army.
That's learning responsibility.

My children have their College Education Paid for, I've paid into the Texas Tomorrow College fund for all 3 of them. If they choose not to go to college it's their loss. I will pay the Insurance on their cars till they get out of high school (called CYOA), but I will not buy their cars. If they want one they will work for it or walk. They will either move out at 18 or start paying room and board, hows the saying go NO GAS, NO GRASS, NO A$$ NO ONE RIDES FOR FREE. I love my kids more than life it self, but I will not be here forever to GIVE them NEW TRUCKS, so they had better get used to it early. If I have anything left when I die they can fight over it. Parents that give their children every thing they want are damn fools.

Hey everybody had different upbringings. My point, at any rate was the fact that I generally associate things like modifying vehics to go fast is a kind of blue collar thing. I am one of those college kids who is mostly blue collar. Nobody really likes spoiled brats. Even other rich kids unless they are those multi million dollar types.

Bottom line? If you work your ass off at whatever the hell you do, for a truck or a boat or a wife or whatever..., you don't really want to hear about other people being given the things you had to bust tail for. That's it. But this country has lot's of people that don't have to work for things. It has black people and white people and every shade of people in between and they all are here. So just like you're folks told you.... Just do YOUR best with what you got and it doesn't matter what anyone else has or does.

Hey my parents bought me an R/T as a highschool graduation present. Never had a job in my life, but I never rub it in anyone elses face. Thats part of the joy of living in a household where there is extra money to spend on your children. It doesnt automatically make your child a spoiled brat. Im not going misfunction in society when college is up and its time to enter the work force (I plan to start my own business anyway and im going to have to earn my own money to get it started.) and get a job because I didnt spend 2 or 3 years of my life working behind a counter selling slop between 2 peices of bread.

I understand we all had different upbringings.

A difference between me and a spoiled preppy bastard is that I dont look at someone who has had it rough and think "Man, Ill bet his/hers parents were fat lazy slobs who didnt make that much money and it reflects it because they drive an old beater!"

I here it all the time from my GF how she doesnt think its right that she has to work and my parents pay for everything I have.

I just dont want to be tagged a mooch because I'v had it alittle bit easier than most. Just as much as somebody doesnt want to be ridiculed because they came from a not as well off family.

As far as me and my truck goes I dont use it as an im better than you title, same goes with anything else Iv been given. I just dont want to be f-cked with by being tossed in the "Spoiled brat" pile.

Im deffinatly not asking for pity, I just want alittle respect and im sure Stormin does too.

The irony behind it is the first few years of highschool before my dad got a decent job everyone thought because I didnt wear abre crombie and fitch (the reason was because I didnt give a G-d damn about a name brand), I drove an old 83 Grand prix, and I wasnt really super popular so of course everything taken into concideration people deffinatly looked down on me.

Then I'll be damn'ed my dad saves up some cash to treat me to something nice and everyone at school and beyond tags me with the spoiled brat title... A guy just cant win without some experience selling burgers I guess.

The problem is people are too damned woried about what everyone else has and how they got it. Bottom line is do whats right for you and dont worry about or label others unless you want to be lableled yourself.

I personally dont give a damn what people think of me weather rich or poor.

I deal with multi millionairs daily and if I let what other people have and how they got it bother me I would be in the funny farm by now !

As far as ggood kids go I think you should make their life as easy as possible to get good grades and go to college etc. My daughter is going to be 16 it 2 weeks and she is getting a 2003 Mini Cooper for her b-day, I will not let her work while she is in high school so she can focus on her grades and the fact that she plays varsity Softball...she has no time for work.

I want her to live at home as long as she is going to school, as long as she is working on a plan for her future she is welcome/encouraged to stay at home. When school is over she MUST pay her own way 100% no excuses.

You are only young once and you should be able to enjoy being young and debt free, I grew up on welfare and will never let my children understand what that is like. They definatly have a GOOD understanding of the value of money and great apreciation for what they have, even though they dont actually work for it they must EARN what they get.

Sorry for the long post...just my views.

I don't think $3,500.00 was enough. The Mark3 conversion and all the upgrades was worth that much. I'm kind of partial to the older Dakotas anyway. They had a better engine (5.2L) and they weighed less. Todays regular cab weighs the same as the 92-96's extended cabs. The transmissions shifted better also. I had a stock 93X-Cab V8 that ran a 15.0 flat with no mods. I put a roll pan on it and I installed a fiber glass hood and front bumper. A gibson cat-back exhaust, 3.91 gears, Magnum Performance cam and throttle body got it down to 14.6sec 1/4. The new Dak's and the R/T won't come close to that.

Tell them you want your old truck back and they can give you $10,000.00 for you to make upgrades to your 95.

You guys are funny, but I can understand where everyone is coming from. I am working full time and just graduated a few months ago and I have a 2001 R/T 5.9 that I'm paying for. As long as you enjoy your ride thats all that matters. Some may have it easier and if they start to take things for granted then f*ck them! I tend to dislike those people where daddy and mommy buys them new cars and trucks each year or so. Thats just riduculus, or if a vehicle has a lil problem they go out and get a new one. I have a lot of respect for people who save there own hard earned money to buy there rides, but if you get one because you deserve it then by all means thats great. I have a lot of respect for my brother, he probably has the best ride there is a 1969 Plymouth Barracuda 440 with a six pack! It has about 500 horsepower and a little over 500 pounds of torque, he was working at McDonalds at the time and has been putting every single paycheck for a year to buy this beast. It was 9,000 and now its worth 15-20,000 because its rare and the guy had no clue. I'll have to post some pics of it. Enjoy what you have and don't think of others in a different way, have fun with your rides and don't dwell of what you once had just think of what you have now.
