I just installed one on my '99. It cost me $30, and I did the install myself. Hooks into factory wireing harness. You have tho have the keyless entry though, and uses the factory key fob. Works great.

I'll tell you right now it's FUN!! Specially when they don't send you the correct wireing diagram and color chart. "01's will be a little more tricky if they have the sentry key. You will love what the shcematic for that looks like!!! Other than that, just hunting down the wires and splicing them together. Took me about 3 hours to finally get mine on and working. Uses factory remote. You have to lock/unlock/lock the doors. The remote start controller senses the lock and unlock signals. After is senses lock/unlock/lock, it will start about 3 seconds later. The same combination will shut the truck of. There are settings to leave the truck run for 10 or 20 minutes before it shuts off automaitcally, and you can set it to start every three hours as well.

I just had one installed on my 01 4.7 CC. I wouldnt even think about installing it on your own. Mine was $300.00 installed. Parking lights come on when activated. Runs for 5,10, or 20 min then shuts off. Auto activate every 2 or 4 hours. Works with factory keyless entry system. Only thing I dont like about it is the interior light does not come on when using remote to open vehicle, and horn doesnt chirp when unlocking. They said they will set it up that way for me when they do another install. Has its own remote, but the factory ones still work as they did before the install. Works up to 1000 feet away. has car locator too when you push the option button twice..horn blows.

Yes, you can put a remote starter on a manuel transmission. They will install a relay to bypass your clutch switch. The trick is DO NOT leave your truck in gear when you engage the remote starter or you will need some repairs on the truck and the garage. :-P

I have a starter and alarm combo on my truck and I can say it was money well spent. NO MORE SCRAPING WINDOWS AT 5AM and you climb into a warm truck.

I just purchased a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT standard cab with a 4.7 magnum v8.

Has anyone heard of problems with using a remote starter with the electronic transmission?

I had a Malfunctioning Indicator Lamp come on several hours after getting the truck. The dealership said that the code indicated that the computer couldn't communicate with the electronic transmission and one of the repairmen said that they had a Dakota come in with simial problem and when they removed the remote starter it fixed the problem. He cleared the fault code and now we can not recreate the problem.

I live in Iowa and need the remote starter during winter so removing the starter is not a viable option.

Any help would be appreciated.

Respectfully,
Richard A Cleaver

I just got a "Your Valet" by DEI. It is not an alarm, it is a keyless entry with the remote start option. About 200-300 bucks, worth it to me! I have two buttons on my remote. Lock and Unlock, I have to push both for a half second or so, and it starts. The parking lights, including the dash come on to let you know it is running. When in the truck with key in, push both buttons again and remove your key and it stays running. So run into Safeway or what ever and your truck is still nice and cozy for up to 24 Min. I have had no problems in the month I have had it. Like the other posts, it is super nice to get into a nice defrosted and warm truck in the AM.

Who installed your remote starter? I had one installed and they had left one of the ignition wires off. This caused me to get the engine light to come on. My understanding is that there is a proper way that power needs to come up so that you do not get false errors.

What type of dash do you have? You might try this to see if you can see the fault codes:

With all electrical devices off,
turn the ignition to the on position but do not start the car
turn off the ignition
turn on the ignition
turn off the ignition
turn on the ignition and observe the dash.

One of two things may happen,
1) Where the spedometer mileage is at, the fault codes will be displayed one at a time until all done.

2) The engine light will pulse the first digit of the code, pause, flash out the next digit of the code until done.

You can then go search the web to find out what the codes are.

I hope this helps.
