Subject: Need Advice For My R/T
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2000 R/T that I just recently bought. I put a generation 2 K&N Cold air kit and Gibson Dual Exhaust Cat-Back System. I ran a 15.8 at the 1/4 mile. That didn't seem right to me, I thought that it should be faster so my first question is does that seem right. My second question is I took off my stock cat, and haven't noticed a difference do you think I am losing hp or gaining any at all?? I also heard that the Stage 2 Jet Chip doesn't work well with the R/T. I need opinions on how to get my truck in the low 14's..

Are you a RC or CC? That may be right for a CC. Most R/T's do run a little quicker than that. The Jet chips are trash: try a MP PCM (if made) or get your stock PCM flashed. Other good mods are the M1, TB, headers, etc. Check and see if your belly pan gasket is blown. If so, this could be some of your problem. This can cause loss of performance and/ or pinging. I run a 15.85 in the 1/4 with my setup, and my truck weighs 5,400 lbs. with me in it. I have more mods but alot more weight than you. Hope some of this helps.

2000 QC Sport Plus 4x4 5.9L 3.92LS (9.25 axle), every factory option
Magnaflow 3" single in/ 2-1/2" dual out
Kenne Bell equal-length headers with 2-1/2" y-pipe
NGK ZFR6F-11 plugs, indexed
Kenne Bell (Taylor) wires
Borg-Warner brass cap/ rotor
180 stat
Redline Water Wetter and Pro-Blend 40 below radiator additive
S-bolt
Homemade 4" cold-air induction
Baffle removed from air hat
K&N air filter
Mobil 1 and Purolator
Map sensor mod
TPS set at .774
clutch fan removed (electric fan on thermal switch)
timing advanced app. 2-3 degrees with sensor in bellhousing
Mopar Performance PCM
M1 two-barrel non-EGR intake manifold (new casting) w/ large turtle

On their way:
APS 50mm TB
GTS functional Ram-Air hood (hood is installed: waiting on air box)

The keys to get into the low 14s (been there done that)

A. Nitrous
B. Supercharger
C. lots of bolt ons

Throttle Body, M1 2bbl, Headers, HighFlow Cat, Cut-out, Mopar PCM (junk that jet chip out the window). These will get you into the 14s easy.

Going lower into the 14s - ignition, 1.7 roller rockers, good back tires, take off spare and tailgate.

Get some slicks and you might just see a 13.9.

www.summitracing.com has the cutouts for $30, a must if you race at the track. It's good for 9hp and at least a tenth on your time.

They also carry ignitions, and just about everthing else.

Try mancini racing for the PCM. Best price I have found, yet. I got my "new style" new casting M1 from campbell enterprises for much less than others (KRC, etc.) are selling the old one for. The new casting does away with the ugly EGR stuff that our trucks don't have. Do all of the cheap little mods that improve throttle response, etc. Stuff like one heat range colder plugs (I prefer NGK over the Autolites), better plug wires, 180 stat, TPS mod, map sensor mod, rubber flap removal, clutch fan removal (can feel power increase and see fuel economy increase: great mod for free), brass cap/ rotor, etc.

I got my M-1 from KRC Performance on sale and it is the non EGR manifold, not the EGR version. The best $375 I ever spent.

I got my M1 for $319.95 at Campbell. Take the map sensor off and turn the elbow sticking out of the bottom of it around facing forward. Put a vacuum plug over the nipple where the elbow was. Reinstall map sensor. Put a hose adapter in the elbow and run a piece of hose (app. 1 foot long) to an unused vacuum port on the right side of the intake manifold. This will help throttle response and the off-idle stumble.

If you want fast the best thing to do is trade it for a Lightning, Harley Supercrew or Mustang Cobra.

and take the $20,000 loss in stride right?

New Cobra (my dream car) $35,000
used Dakota R/T $15,000
being able to pump over 400 horsepower into a dyno with just an air filter and muffler...................priceless

I believe the guy you need to talk to is Marshall. I'm about 98% sure he is the one.

For the intake: Just tell him you want the "new casting" non-EGR M1. I don't remember the part number. Sorry.

A cut out is an item you put in the exhaust pipe. It is shaped like a y. You leave it closed during normal use and the exhaust flows straight thru and utilizes the muffler/ tailpipe, etc. When you open it the exhaust gases go out the other end and bypass your exhaust system. This is really loud and for track use only.

It's cheap $30 from summit and is good for 9hp and 3 ft lbs tq (personal dyno results). At the track it's good for at least a tenth sometimes as much as 3/10s. I can vouch for that.

No one asked what the conditions were when he got his 15.8 time. Temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and altitude can affect a persons time by several tenths.

What track were you at?

Those are good conditions to run fast. Shouldn't be any negative effect on times. Probably a plus, actually.
