Subject: 180 deg. stat after install?
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey guys... I just finished installing the 180 deg stat in my 99 dakota. After I installed it and was adding antifreeze, I noticed the temp hand down lower than normal...looks good.

Then after I started driving, it was fluxuating up and down a bit. Now when i got back home the temp hand is at the same temperature as the stock 195 deg. NO change!!!

What's on the go? Anybody have any ideas? Compiter still learning, faulty stat.etc????

C..

After the install and refill did you let it run till warm and add more coolant. After warm up with the thermostat open check and make sure the radiator is full and circulating.

Thanks for the reply,

I did let it warm up and the coolant level is full. I let it circulate alot Maybe its where its suppose to be. I need more input before I buy another t-stat or start trouble shooting more. The temperature system on the truck is operating 100% normal. Thanks again..

My truck does the same thing. I didn't notice any difference in the stat change so I thought it was bad and did repeated the install process and I have the same result. I believe the thermostat is opening once it reaches 180 degrees but the truck runs so hot the peg fluctuates between 195 and 210. Of course it's bloody hot down here in Austin Texas. During the evening the truck stays cooler but that's a given.

The truck will run at the same temp as a 195 T-stat after it reaches operating temp. The engine will run cooler at first, b/c the T-stat opens up quicker, but eventually it will heat up to the same point that the 195 was operating at. Kinda like having your A/C on low vs high, it can reach the same temp, just takes different times.
