Oh well, I just toasted a 99 360...isn't that grand... picked pieces of piston rings out of the manifold...lol...uuuugleeee. Well, so i went down to the old salvage yard and they ordered me a 360 with 23000 miles on it (i hope.) and i will be installing that this weekend. (already got my engine out..did it last two nights...oh how fun..lol

heres my question...is there a way..because i believe the VIN number will be on this engine...that i can do some research...maybe see wtf happened to the truck it was in...what was done to it.., how many times a day it was raced..etc.... that way ill have an idea of what to expect?
any help would be appreciated

Carfax should be able to help if it had a service record. You probally have a zero chance of learning who the original owner was.

I'd say you are right cuda....but i figured i MAY have a chance if they were in that R/T club...cuz the vin # was required to join......
the only thing that scares me about it is..i know firsthand how ppl drive R/T's....lol...if it was run anything like i ran mine...im scared..hehe

havent got to see it yet...its at home...dad picked it up today....and he knows nothing about em....it was crated....so maybe ive got a 1 in a million chance ill open it up to find some mods... :)

James also think about this...therez a 50/50 chance he's an old dude that babies it or some teenage kid that daddy bought an R/T for him and rodded the hell out of it. So finding out who owned it and his age would help alot. I'll admit I do gas it sometimes but I do baby mine alot also...something about doing all the work yourself and paying for everything makes you want to take care of it.

When I got my truck I went to a dealer and asked them to look in the computer to see how much time was left on my warranty (got mine used, a 2000) and on that warranty screen it had the name of the previous owner so my mom was there, she said 'whats this mean?' pointing at something, which kept them on that screen long enough to get that name and number. Maybe try that? :)

Man, how big of a shot of n2o were you using?
Did you have an A/F gauge hooked up? Im just
curious bc to blow a 5.9 you either need to run
a laaaaarrrggggeee amount of nitrous or run
way lean (sounds to me like you were lean
since your pizton rings became french fries) :-)
Have fun putting the new engine in, while you
got it out you should go direct port this time
and make that A/F shoot right down stoich!
Sorry about the bad experience!

Buy the new engine and run the hell out of it like you did the one you blew.

Maybe you should check the block, and if no major damage is done, order a set of diamond pistons, bore it 30-60 over, port and polish the heads, get r/t headers, and make it meaner. I think of screwing something up as a reason to fix it better...

I agree with you, Knoxville. If the old engine blew because of N2O (or some other mod or driving condition), then there is a good chance the new one will too. No matter who owned it before.

I'd pull the old one, and if the block was good, build it -mean-.
