Subject: Where is it coming from?????

With the windows down, when I take off in first gear, I hear what sounds like an air intake leak. It's really high pitched and goes higher as the engine revs up. The problem is when I try to go under the hood and look for it, the engine noise blocks the sound. Has anyone else heard this and, if so, can you steer me in the right direction? It is definately coming from somewhere in the engine. I have already ruled out the sound system.

You might try using a stethoscope or even holding an empty paper towel roll tube to your ear. This can help to drown out the sound of the engine and you can also move it around to pinpoint where the sound is coming from. Just a thought, good luck!

Tony, All 4.7's make an air sucking sound because of the Plastic intake manifold. I thought the same thing as you. I went to Dodge and test drove several 4.7's and everyone made the air sucking sound that you described. If you listen carefully on the 4x4's you will also here the transmission click several times when you place it in gear. All Normal.
