OK.. I did it and WOW.. it is worthy to do after the cams.. the cams were great and this was almost as great.. I put in the cams last week, logged 500 miles + on them and did the intake manifold today. Took it for a short drive and it seemed to move the powerband from the cams up a little (3-500 rpm)but the bottom end is still improved and the top end is still much better.

However I actually did 3 things all at once today:
-replaced the intake manifold with the HO version
-moved the IAT to the intake tube
-replaced my mildly bored 65mm TB with a mildly ported 68mm TB

Was it worth it... Yes... I smoked my friends 2002 RC 2wd 4.7 5-speed (stock) with my 2000 CC 2wd 5-speed with ease... before teh cams and intake it was a close race... You gotta do it!!!!

Once the cams are in, the intake really helps out. I've noticed the same thing in my truck. Mine's a 4.7L CC Auto. Try getting the KB II Optimizer next, and you'll see what that thing can really do as a N/A engine. Very impressive.

thats good news. I wanted to get the h.o intake manifold and have it ported since I don't want to do the cams.

your the first person who didn't install all the parts at once.

are most of you guys putting in the cams yourselves? I'm pretty illiterate when it comes to mechanic work, what would be a fair price to pay to have a mechanic install these cams for me, anyone paid someone already?

Porting the H.O. manifold, I think it's plastic, isn't it?

I got the cams on the way, hell, may as well go ahead and get the manifold too.

Without the cams are you really going to make use of the extra flow???

IMHO the cams are where it is at... 4 hours without trouble... pretty easy... GREAT bang for the buck...

hopefully I will see some gains from the h.o manifold without cams(if I get it). even though its plastic there is still probable some rough edges to clean up.

conig,

There are several parts of teh HO Intake you can clean up for better air flow. I did a little light sanding before I put mine on as well just to smooth out some sharp angles and such. It won't hurt anything if you keep the plastic removal to a minimum.

Great information. I'll think I'll do what you did and put the cams in first and see what happens. Better gas mileage with just the cams? Interesting

Again, thanks and Mopar2ya
