Subject: Volant Cold Air Intake & C,A.R.B

Howdy,

Does anybody have any experience with the Volant Cold Air Intake?

I know their expensive, but they carry the C.A.R.B approval sticker. Anyway, they make some pretty amazing claims of 18hp and up to 40 ft/lbs of torque!!! I have a 2000 4.7 auto, CC, 3.92 LSD. I'm running mobil 1 synthetic oil with a 2 chambered flowmaster 2 1/2" out un-true dual exhaust. I also have a Mike Leach flashed chip and a K&N drop-in filter.

Has anyone experienced anything close to what Volant claims for their cold air intake? I'm also thinking of buying the dreaded throttle body spacer. I read many, many posts and concluded that they're a glorified paper weight for 3.9L, 5.2L and the 5,9's but seem to work well for the 4.7's. Any comments?

Also, there doesn't seem to be a heat shield box for their intake. I've looked at Volant's web-page and it's not offered for the 2000 4.7. I want a heat shield that will hopefully keep hot engine air out of my intake.

Thanks and Mopar2ya

I bought a Volant intake kit for my 2000 4.7. It did come with a heat shield, although it is a small one, just large enough to enclose half the filter element (the half closest to the engine). On the box it came in, there was a picture of the assembled kit and over the filter element was a kind of translucent air box. I took this to mean that although it was not included in the kit, maybe it was an available item. You should get in touch with Volant and see if they have it. I can't tell you my experience with the kit as my truck was stolen before I put it on. Sorry.

I would rather get a Intense performance Stage II or III. I own one, and I can tell you that it worked. The performance gain was noticable, and it give out this nice super charge sound.

Texas Todd: Thanks for the offer, but I've already sold it.

mopar2ya: Yeah, I know what you mean. You can't believe how many people are out there just looking to rip you off. I think people who steal should get much stiffer penalties than they do. You have to be a real low life to steal from someone.

I just sold my Volant air system. It did not add any power that I could notice to my 4.7 If you read past the 18 Hp and 40 blah blah blah. you will see that they are making the claims on dyno's from some other engines.
The 4.7 comes stock with a very good cold air system just put in a good K & N high flow filter and you will feel the difference. But it won’t sound as good as the Volant or any of the systems with the tubes and cone filters.

Oh and on the throttle body there was an article on this board a few months ago that dynod a 4.7 and some other engines it did not help the 4.7 but some of the others showed a great deal of improvement.
I’ll see if I can find it.
