factory tow package includes a class iv reciever, 7 pin wiring harness and a adaptor 7 to 4 pin wiring.
The larger alternator, battery, heavy duty cooling and trans cooler are part of the heavy duty service group

Ah hah...I was wondering if maybe I just hadn't seen enough american engines in my life but it seemed to have "two radiators" as I first called it. Guess one of them was the tranny cooler.

I have a 03 Dakota with the towing package. When towing a small travel trailer (3800 lbs)with electric brakes do I need anything additional to the 7 pin wiring harness on the truck?

Unless you have one already you'll probably need an
electronic Brake controller.

I have a 2000 dodge dakota slt with the 4.7l v8 and 45rfe auto trans. i'm assuming i have the heavy duty tow package cause i have the 7 pin wiring harness that includes a battery charge circuit for a trailer battery. my question is how many amps does the battery charge wire put out and how would i install the electronic brake controller for trailer brakes using the factory supplied connector? i currently pull a dump trailer averaging around 1000 to 2500 pounds of weight. i want to keep my dump trailer battery charged as often as i can and i would like to install the brake controller to help in braking especially down steep hills. the trailer has electronic drum brakes already i just need to hook it up. any help would be much appreciated thanks!

According to my owners manual and factory order sheet (2000 quad cab), tow group has hitch, 7 pin connector, and 4-7 adapter, and three relays that go into your power distribution, and 1 or two fuses. Your electronic connector should be right behind the cab fuse panel under the dash. The adapter (plug in) for this should be included or available as an accessory with your electronic controller, or available through mopar dealers or parts suppliers. The 136 amp alternator comes with either the heavy service group, air conditioning, or fog lamps. The amount of current available to your trailer will be labelled in the distribution center by the battery box. Always fully charge your trailer battery before connecting to your truck to protect your fuses.
