Subject: Which throttle body size?
IP: Logged

Message:
I just bought a 2000 V8 4.7 and man do I love it! I have so far is a single flowmaster whith dual out exhaust. The questions are
1. Should I put on a 68mm or 70mm TB?
2. How much noticiable HP should I expect with the exhaust, bigger TB and intake system?
3.I don't race at all but do enjoy going fast on freeways and a little more HP would't hurt, is this setup for right me or do I need more or less?
4. does a bigger catalytic conveter add or take away HP/torque? Thanks for any input!

Congrats on your new purchase. Is it an auto or manual trans? I think the larger the TB you put on, the more low end your going to lose. This would probably be more of an issue with an automatic. It's easier to keep the manual 'on the pipe'. I guess it depends on what kind of power you want. Have fun.

It also depends on what else you plan on doin to the truck. 70mm would be the biggest you would want to go. The 65mm TB (which is on your '00) actually flows like a 62mm because of flow restrictions in the TB. I upgraded to a Fastman 68mm TB that actually flows like a 68mm. This gave me quite an improvement all around.

get a Fastman true 68mm TB...i have that, an intense performance Z-tube, and an exhaust similar to yours and my last dyno run netted 208 rwhp and ~289 rwtq.

good question on the cat though. i've been told that a high-flow (or gutted) would help me out on the upper end due to a rich condition. havent decided what to do with it yet as i'm not sure which Catco i should get.
