I have 60,000 miles on my 4.7 with the 45RFE trans. I have had not even one small problem. I change oil ever 5K and it may be 1/4 of a quart low at that time. I use the 4X4 every day on a step gravel road. My old Dakota had the 5.2 and was a gas hog, and compaired to the 4.7 it was gutless, and sounded wimpie!

I would choose the 4.7 anyday over the 5.9. Push rods are a thing of the past. The 4.7 has had more
developement than any engine Chrysler has ever done before with any engine.

GO WITH THE 4.7

Glad to hear that, Far Out!!! I just got a 2003 Dakota CC 4x4 with the 4.7, and yes Chrysler has put a lot of engineering into it including a tried and true oiling system developed by AMC many years ago.
I'm trying AMS oil in it now. Hear it's the best synthetic oil. Should raise gas mileage. Any comments?????

2003 Dodge Dakota Quad cab 4x4 with a 5.9 and 4:10 gears. It currently has 225,000 miles and is still running strong. All engine accessories are still original. Very pleased with the 5.9 and Dakota combination.
