Subject: 4.7 Catalytic Converters?HELP
IP: Logged

Message:
I just bought a 02 single cab 5 speed with a 4.7.
I see there are 2 or 3 cats and or a resanator along with a muffler?
I used to have a 98 5.2 with a single cat and i cut it off but i left the two o2's in the pipe.
I really need to get these things off and i was hoping someone could give me good advice on what to do. I would like to run the stock pipe and muffler without cats so it looks pretty stock.
But i may go all out with true dual to flowmasters.
Also i dont know what kinda rear end i have but it sure does like to burn up the right rear tire.
Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot.
Dave

David, I've said this a thousand times on these boards. Everyone who has done anything to thier exhaust on a 4.7 and had before and after dyno's has shown a lowend loss of torque. If anyone does anything to thier exhaust with a 4.7 and does lose any low end, and has significant high end gains, I want to know about it. I want to know what they did to thier exhaust, and what sort of engine setup they had. And I want to see before and after dynos.

I can guarentee I didn't loose anything on the lowend with my third cat that went missing. I hit it in 4th at 1500rpm and it still pulls nicely.

My '02 4.7 QC has only one cat located close to the trans mount. My question is, will I lose any torque going with a high flow cat. If so, staying stock is for me.

everyone seems to be different but I doubt you will loose a thing. You will gain on the top though.

Remove the third cat and run true duals, with or without high flow cats. I've got true duals with the third cat removed and I'll post my before and after dyno info as soon as I run home and get it back to work. I guarantee I didn't lose anything, and mid to high power range is pretty dramatically improved.

So what's the deal with the three cats? Is this a California emissions thing? I have one and only one-nothing but pipe from the manifolds, into the y and on into the cat. Am I legally blind??

Wally...No you are not blind. I had 3 people check mine just to make sure I wasn't crazy. No pre-cats, only one big one on mine w/the 02 sensors before and after.
