The 5.9 holds 5 QT's, I would suggest synthetic in a lawnmower over Dino oil. I know it costs more money but I've seen both types run and engines torn down later, it's unbelievable. After 40,000 miles the syntec engine looks brand new in side, no sludge at all, the dino, well it looks like the bottom of a crude oil tank before the pumper drains it off. (spent to much time in the oil field)

I use Mobil 1 10w-40 for winter and 15w-50 for summer in my 4.7L. Granted the truck is pretty new but the last drain 3 days ago was as clean as when it went in.

I had a'96 Nissan XE King Cab, 2.4L 12 valve and run Mobil 1 in it from 1500 miles, changed oil every 5-6000 miles. When I sold it in March it had 71,000 miles on it, I told the new owners that it had been 5,500 miles since last oil change and it needed changing. The guys a do-it-yourselfer and he changed it and told me the next week I must have been confused 'cause the oil he drained out was new and clean. HA! I used this truck for SCCA for the first 2 1/2 years of it's life. So it had been hammered pretty hard. I brought it to Germany with me Aug 2000 and drove it here and not being easy on it, driving back and forth to work running 95 - 110 mph everyday, till March when I sold it. I ran this truck to 6500 rpm's everyday, 5 or 6 times a day.(thats 500 rpm's past redline)

That's my testimony on Synthetics. I believe there is an AMSOIL dealer on this site that has his .02 cents worth to put in also.

I drive my Dak just like the Nissan, but at higher rates of speed. I don't redline it everyday, but it has more power and I don't need to.

Good Luck,

My VW Killer
