Hey guys, I have a 99 dakota 4x4 5.2 5spd with approx. 60000 km. Sometimes, On start up, when the truck has been left over nite, it flashes up, but hesitates and the rpms run to about 500 and hangs there for about 3 seconds and then it goes over a 1000 and then back to normal idle. I have brought it to the dealership and they cannot find the problem.. This has been happening for about a year and a half now and first they changed a intake gasket that was sucked inside. This improved the problem, but it still exists. Its gets worse with colder weather and longer times sitting..

Everything in under the hood is stock until tomorrow when i get a cold air intake, and a flowmaster muffler with custom pipes,.. I am waiting to see if this changes anything.

Any info will be cool.

Chad

Have you done the TPS voltage mod? That might do it (www.speedtweaks.net), I'd also be pulling the cap/rotor off and checking the contacts there as well as the condition of the plugs. I'm supposing you've already run some fuel injector cleaner through it?

Hey Thanks for the ideas.... The plugs have approx. 12000 km on them and they are bosch platimun, I have used them in the past with no problems. They are also in good condition. I have already ran injector cleaner through it.

I will check the condition of the cap/rotor today and I will also look into the tps mod. (what are the advantages of the tps mod and will it void my warranty??)

Thanks Chad

The TPS mod shouldn't void your warrenty anymore than those Bosch plugs. :0)

Since they came from the factory with such a -wide- range of voltage settings (I've heard as low as .375, mine was .778 stock), I'd like to see someone say it causes a problem. Just don't set it higher than .8, I think is what Bernd suggested. It basically increases the computer's sensitivity to changes in throttle position. Heck, maybe your sensor is bad, that could cause some odd things to happen.

Hey guys, I checked the cap/rotor and all the points were burnt.. They were not too bad but bad enough for me to get dodge to change it on warranty.. :) I will get it done in a little while when I get a little time to drop it off, for a look over.>>>( still on Warranty)

Maybe this will fix it, but we will see what the TPS mod, the cold air intake, and flow masters will do first...

Thanks C

I had an old 84 Mazda B2000 that used to do that. All I did was use 93 octane gas on every fill up and use NOS octane booster every 3rd tank. It stopped the problem all together. It still had no power, but it didn't hesitate anymore.
