Something Iv never quite caught on too on this site is how when you confront a V6 dak individual about why they didnt go ahead and get the 8 they say, "Well, we just love dakotas and didnt have the money to get the 8..." Then I turn around and see some of those 6 guys that have put more into there dak sixers than the ammount it costs to put an entire big block into there truck...
Just thought I'd mention this to see what kind of input I get...

i dunno, one of the possible explainations is gas mileage. that coulda been a factor. Or possibly, if they bought there dakota used, what kinda financing they could get. Maybe they could only afford a six, and just wanted to mod there engine as they go, like me, i wasnt really even looking for a r/t, but found one after countless failures at lookingat hondas and mitsubishis. Just my thoughts.

I bought my v6 for fuel mileage. I average about 18.2 MPG. I almost bought the 4.7. All I wanted was a confortable good looking truck with reasonable power. My V6 dak is perfect for me. Don't need a DAK that goes fast when you own a C5.

I bought my 6 because at the time it's all I could afford. I wanted a 5.2L, but they didn't have any 5-speeds and I didn't want an auto (the only V8 5-speed they could find was -loaded-). As it was they had to go out of state to find a truck close to what I want. Even then I had to wait 6 months before my first modificatioin.
I plan on replacing my Dak in 8-12 months when I graduate and have a job. Don't know with what yet though... I'm curious about this SRT-4 thing. If they put the 5.7L in the Dak with a 5-speed though, my decision is made!

I bought a V6 because I don't need a V8. I didn't want to pay extra for options I didn't need. The SXT had everything I needed at the time I purchased it. No matter what I drive, I modify it to make it perform better and to make it more "me." I have yet to put anything on my truck that has decreased my mileage or performance. I'm getting roughly 3 mpg better mileage than I was when my truck was stock. I'd have gotten a V8 if I wanted to race or tow stuff. I don't do either, therefore a V6 suits me fine. I won't deny that a V8 would be nice, but when it comes to need and want, I think about what I need. I didn't buy my truck expecting it to be fast. It's a TRUCK. If I want to go fast, I'll buy a motorcycle. My needs, wants and priorities aren't always going to be the same as someone elses, so people can rip on the V6 all they want. I'm happy with my Dakota.

I bought my 6 because, i dont have the money for a brand new dak, so when i was looking for a used, and you find the truck that is just what you want besides the v8 and the price is what you can do why not do it. so basically i got my 6 cause when the truck has everything else you are looking for and the price is right you got to jump on it. im plenty happy with my 6, i have two buddies with 4.7 grands yes there faster but my 6er still keeps up. i dunno my dollar 97 worth.

i bought my v6 cause...well...it waz the best dak on the lot...in 98 RT's were very limited production, and i wanted a new truck...i wish now i wouldve bought a used RT...which i am tryin to trade in on now...my baby's been good 2 me...but im cravin a v8...insurance is the only thing that can stop me...or slow me down from buyin an RT...

People get them because it just suits them more. I am not sure about the ones who mod. Could another reason be insurance? How much cheaper is the insurance going to a V6 -- on average? Should be cheaper since they look at ci right?

i got a V6 dakota because when i got it i was 18 years old making $7 a hour in a part time job. I got several promotions, full time, big raises and now i could afford stuff for my truck.. couldnt get rid of it because it had everything i wanted... sunroof, intense blue, automatic, etc.

got the V6 cuz it was cheaper...now that I got money I bought a V8 for the swap and I got all kinds of time to work on it before I drop it in. (Plus the V8 was over $2000 cheaper than a supercharger)
