Well I'm sure some of you know about the new Gen-2 engines coming out of dodge, but for those who don't... heres something really sweet.

Dodge is releasing 2 new engines this year, the 235hp 3.7L V6, and the all new replacement for the old clunky, slushy 5.9 is going to be a monster 5.7L V8 cranking out over 320hp and close to 400lb of torque. The new V6 is available in all 2002 Rams, and will soon be ported to 2003 Daks. The New 5.7 will be available to 2003 Ram owners and maybe Dakotas as well. Move over Lighting and C3, dodge has a new big block Chevy killing, ford crushing engine on the horizon.

For details about the new V6 check out any dodge dealership for a Ram booklet.

For details on the new 5.7 V8, please consult Motor Trend Online or Chicago Auto Show references.

Also... Ram owners can expect to place orders in 2003 for the 550hp 650lb torque v10 Ram. Put that in your GMC pipe and smoke it!

If the new lineup for the Dak is gonna be 215HP 37 V6, 270HP 4.7HO V8, and 345HP 5.7 Hemi V8. Ford's gonna have to step up thier Mustang a bit or they're gonna be looking a bit pathetic.

Any word on the tranny that's gonna be backing that V-10?

I understand that the High Output Jeep has a redesigned air flow box and some computer tweeks. Motor Trend had a bit on that number too but I cant remember what was so different about it. I'm a little pissed off that I bought my 4.7 so soon, guess I should have waited.

Trans in the v10 engine hasn't gotten much spotlight, so I don't really know. I could ask around, I worked with the people that designed the whole v10 idea.

Not to be a dick or anything, but that 3.7 has been in the Jeep Liberty since they released it last year. And the new 5.7 is not a big block, it's actually about exactly the same block size as current 5.9 and older 5.2, AKA the mopar small block. I guess in todays standards a 5.7 is pretty big, but it's no where near the size of a 383 or 440. There are quite a few tweaks done to make a HO 4.7 a HO. It's been discussed a bunch here but don't look for it anytime soon in the Dakota, and never look for it to have a 5-speed mounted behind it in a Dakota. They have released it is not coming with the release of the 2003's in the Dakotas, but later in the year or next year is still up in the air. The motor makes too much torque for the nv-3500 manual, just like the 5.9 so that's why you won't see it matched up to a 5-speed, otherwise the R/T's would have had 5-speeds from the start.

The HO also has cams and an intake manifold. Both of which are some proven and affordable ways to gain power and torque everywhere in the 4.7's power band.

hmmm, $400 K&N intake (maybe 5HP) or $400 cams and intake manifold (about 20HP at the peak, more off peak)

Hennessey(sp?) motorsports here in Houston will shoehorn you a V10 in any Dakota or Durango. I saw the Durango and it rocked! A RC SWB Dak with a V10 would be a monster. FYI the V10 Ram will be named the RT/10. They matted the engine & tranny out of a Viper and slipped right in there...viper labels and all. The brakes are right off of the viper also. The rumor price tag will be around $35K, but I guess if you have to ask you can't afford it. If I can sell my Jeep soon I will be ordering mine as soon as they start taking orders.

And 2000Dak, the 2003 Ram 1500 with the Viper engine in it is called the SRT-10

SRT (Street Road Track)

Just like the Neon SRT-4 (turbo 2.4L I4, projected at 205hp, but it's production Hp is looking more like 215).

There's still no word from D/C on putting the HO 4.7L into the Dakota. I would really like it if they did, but I don't think it will happen in this current model.

Demon,
Thanks I was pulling it off the top of my head. As a side note the Ram with the V10 engine has a beefed up frame and quicker steering ratios in the rack & pinion system. While we are on the subject has anyone seen the pics of the HOT ROD project Dak. They shoehorned a big 426 Hemi crate engine into a GenIII Dak. Complete with Fuel Inj., Mopar Headers & customized Mopar intake.
