Subject: Maybe a stupid question...

...but I am from Switzerland and might have the only Dakota R/T 1oo miles around - a good excuse, isn't it!? :-)

However I ordered the Gibson Dual rear exit exhaust for my 99 2WD Dakota Kingcab R/T 5.9L.

In the description of the exhaust they write only for "short bed". But I never saw a kingcab with another bed. My bed should be 6 feet. Is there a shorter/longer bed?

Will the exhaust fit to my Dakota? I ordered the following part:
Dodge: 1997-99 5.9L Dakota/Dakota R/T, 2WD, extended cab, short bed, 2 1/2 in. diameter, split rear exit, exhaust system

Thanx in advance

Tim

We all have stupid questions, it's just this site you get burned for it!!

According to my 2001 brochure. All standard and d club cab models have a 77.7 inch long bed. The QC has a 63.7 inch long bed.

All R/Ts have the same length bed so your Gibson should be the correct one.

The bed even looks shorter on the quad.

Thank you very much for your answers.

So - the sound will be with me ;-)

(and my R/T urgently needs sound! Due to our local noise emission laws an additional muffler was added to the OEM exhaust system!!!)

O.K. not kingcab but extended cab ;-)

The price of stuff from the U.S. is acceptable as far as you do the import by you own. Speed shops take 2-2.5 x the U.S. price.
If I import it I'll pay the price in USD + air freight + import duty (weight dependend and cheap) + VAT (7.6%). That adds up to about the 1.6 x USD price. Fair enough.
Re. the prices here in Switzerland: Yes everything is very expensive here but as in the states depending on there you live. Here in Zurich life is very expensive. So 4-6 room appartments near the lake can definitely cost you about a million USD (but not 2 rooms - these are more Tokyo prices). But you also can rent a nice appartement for about 2,000 USD a month.
The speedlimits on the autobahn is 120 KPH, citlimits are 50 KPH. BUT Germany (where I come from) is just about 60 miles away and there as you know a lot of the autobahn is without any speed limit. What this means to me will my next question show ;-)

I don't care what they think ;-)

What I will do is to install 2 supertrapps that will be open until they might catch me in a control. If that happens I will install the disks and the muffler endcap. This should help. Every 2nd year we have to show our cars to the autorities for a check. Before this date I will reinstall the original Swiss exhaust. Most gearheads do it that way.

BTW
Tuesday the Gibson will be installed at my local speedshop. I can't wait for the sound!
