I'm not knocking the R/Ts but if they want to have a R/T-Lightning shoot out I hope they get an R/T that runs better than 16.1. If they are going to put it in a magazine we need some fast truck to represent us. HSKR,I hope none of those were yours.

Mine ran a 15.8 best run that day. Once again!!! Temps were around 100+ all day we were running, and the track is at 2800'. Not ideal conditions for good times. Just to compare, they had a Lightning shot out a cople weeks prior with same conditions. The stock lightnings were running high 14's, and even a couple 15 second runs(not the fatsest for the day though). The quickest Lightning who was using NOS ran a 13sec time. NOS and SC's can overcome altitude better than N/A, and NOS can over come high temps since it lowers intake charge. I hope if you ever run yout truck at a track, you can understand the effects of heat and altitude on a truck so when someone posts their times with heat and altitude listed you won't go bashig them for running slow in 100 degree heat, and hihg altitude. Mine was the blue one by the way. I have since ran a best of 14.73 with no further mods

I read the article last night. I'm glad to know the conditions were not good because I was not super impressed with the times and speeds.

One of the pictures of a blue truck had text under it that said it was a red truck. Was that your truck? Did they mess up the photos or just the color??

Density Altitude Horsepower Loss
IP: Logged

Message:
How fast your truck goes will change with the weather!

Air density is affected by the temperature and humidity of the air. On a hot day, or at high altitude, or on a moist day, the air is less dense. A reduction in air density reduces the amount of oxygen available for combustion and therefore reduces the engine horsepower and torque. This atmospheric condition is referred to as Density Altitude.

For example, at 102 deg F, 28.55 in-Hg barometer reading, 40% relative humidity and 2800 ft altitude, the engine only produces about 80% of the rated horsepower.

If you do the math.....
stock hp = 250
drivetrain loss of 20% = 50 hp
density altitude loss of 20% =50 hp
subtract the 40% loss and you end up with 150 hp to the rear wheels.
How fast is a 4200 lb truck supposed to go with only 150 hp?

It works the same regardless of what you start out with.
At altitude you lose horsepower
With high temps you lose horsepower
In humid conditions you lose horsepower
If the barometer reading is low you lose horsepower

This is the exact reason why trucks go faster at some tracks and not at others. Everybody likes to compare times they run compared to others. Unless everybody is at the same track at the same time, that's tough to do. How fast your truck goes will change with the weather. How fast your truck goes will change depending upon where you are at.

How fast your truck goes while being photographed for a magazine at a cruddy track at high altitude and with high temps...... will get you pissed off! hehehe

HSKR, That's a good looking truck. Was the 14.73 on slicks. I'm at sea level but I ran 14.9 stock when the temp was aprox. 95-96 degrees but the relative humidity was 99%. So how much different is that as far as you were at higher elevation but we hade more humidity. No sarcasm intended, I realy would like to have an idea of how much differen it is from here to there. I'm glad to here you got that 15.8 out of the picture I was getting worried, next time tell SPORT TRUCK you want a bettr track if they are goin to send this Mag all over the US.

The 14.73 was on my Pirelli Scorpion Zero 275/55/17 tires on stock rims. I got worse time with the slicks!! When I ran the 14.73 is was about 60 degrees outnad at 80' altitude. Don't knwo hat humidity was. And yes Sport truck messed up the caption under my picture. Guess they are color blind!!

One of the R/Ts in the article was from Washington. The rest were Cali R/T's with the exception of mine which is a Nebraska truck. Where you get your info is beyond me. I was there, so I should know!!!
