Got clocked by a police officer friend of mine at a top speed of 151 mph in my 1999 dak r/t. only mods are exhaust, pcm, taller rear tires (275/60/17's on factory rims and yes they fit, tight).

it is pushing just over 400 horsepower at the crank but the reason it could go that high was that it has 2.73 gears... there was enough rpms to go even faster.

So the PCM does go higher than 135... Only had mine up to 120 ... I lost the courage to go any faster :P. Plus as i started to slow down a cop clocked me at 97 (not a whole lot compared to 151 lol) but I told the guy i was just out messing around with my PCM (just after i got it) and he said he would only right me up 80mph to save me some cash since I was an honest little boy.

Hey I lived in Frankfurt for a few years. We used to take the trains everywhere but one time we went down to munich and rented a ford escort. We were moving along around 200 kph (120 mph, and yes i did say a ford escort). There were Mercedes and Porches passing us like we were sitting still. Didnt see any ferrari's though :(. Anyway when they pass ya you can feel the wind from there car almost push ya off the side of the road.

Bill , did the v-max (awsome bike!!!) have a wind screen? My nighthawk 700s has a bikini faring , and at 130 even laying down it was kindda buffeting my head around. I couldn't imagine "being in the wind" without a shield going that fast!!!!

A friend of my dad happens to own an exotic car dealer, so I've had a chance to drive a couple cool vehicles. Had a 97 Viper modified by Hennessey up to about 150. Not sure, I was shaking too bad to look down. Pretty sure I left the seat wet. :-) Also had a chance to drive a Porsche 911 twin turbo. not sure of the year or designation. only had that to 115-120 before I got freaked out. not bad for being 17 at the time.

Had my '95 Cady ETC to 140 with the sun roof open , this wasn't a planned run. I thought it was going to break. I then suffered a case of SIN(S*$# In Neck) and shut it down. It was still charging strong and I'm sure it would have reached its 150mph chip limit. People don't know what they are sitting on with those Northstar engines

Going fast is a real thrill. At one point when
living in New Zealand a few years back I had
two Porsches; a 928S4 and a 3.3L 930
(usually called 991 Turbo in US). One night I
had the 928 off the clock (180MPH speedo)
going down a long hill trying to outrun the cops
who had radared me a ways back 'cruising' at
120. Despite being very unreliable, the 928
was a very reassuring car at that speed having
the big engine up front. Supposedly, the 930 is
as quick but I never had the balls to go over
140 in it as it gets real light in the steering
being rear engine and felt bloody dangerous. I
now have a Dakota RT and love it. Oh and the
cops did bust me as they'd blocked off the
road ahead...

Lucky for us there was hardly no traffic. At some points we where going 135-140. I hit 150 a couple of times but did not push any harder, cause these cars are govered at 155. went 160 on my 89fzr1000 when I was stationed in Hawaii!!

Fast is a relative term-- a YUGO can do 100 mph-- it just takes 8 miles to get there. I've hit a GPS verified 136.9 in my '00 RT within 2 miles. (Southwestern desert, new highway, early evening-- NO traffic- Cruised at 130-135 for 10 miles in under 4.5 minutes. I've gone faster since based on RPMs, but nothing to actually measure (I'm in the 140-145 mph range-- faster than I care to think of what COULD happen traveling nearly a football field length in 1 second). Guys that say they've run faster in mildly modded RTs-- how many rpms were you pulling ??? 151 mph could only happen on a downhill w/ a tailwind-- it's pure physics (drag created requires X HP to obtain Y speed). There's a lot more HP needed to reach 151 mph vs. 120 mph... A lot. The climb from 130-145 range takes longer than 0-100...

There is probably about 3 TRUE STORIES in this post. 177 in a Z28? You better have had about 10 miles of clear road cause at 177, even if you could keep a Camaro on the road at over 150, your covering a mile in about 20 seconds . . Cough*BullSh*t*Cough!! Just one of the many examples.

Ryan.... your right. i had nothing better to do then come here and lie... the car has been over 150 several times on a dyno. on that trip the needle was buried and but the tach kept going. My dad to that info and calculated 177 mph. With over 400 at the crank and 2.73 gears it's possible. sorry if your car doesnt do it.... doesnt mean nobody elses does.

i guess ten miles of an interstate isnt common...

i think this is about the third post i have seen you on trying to call other people liars...

At 5500 rpm in 3rd gear(top gear) with 2.73 rear end gears, my Chevelle(400hp small block) would theoretically be going 170mph... no BS...do the calculations...

I shift into second gear at 68mph... 3rd at 116mph...

Damn, Slick...I hope you at least have disk brakes in that Chevelle!

Had a '68 Chevelle SS396/350 horse, with a 4 sp, and I think (it was 26 years ago) either 3.42s or 3.50 somethings in it. Anyway, got it over 5500 rpm in 4th gear with G60/15 tires on it (no idea what the P-metric equivelent size is).

It had drum brakes all around! All I remember was that it felt like a powerboat coming up on plane. It was all over the road at that speed.

The fastest I have ever been, proven anyways is 209 mph on my old preban busa. It of course had been "slightly" massaged as have almost all of my bikes. The reason I know the speed is because a good friend of mine is a state trooper and he hit a few of us guys with the radar. Most radars have a set limit thats set to 180 or so but his is a new gen model or something so it reads higher. My friends busa was 3mph slower than mine. But of course, I'm lying too! Everyone knows busa's are slow!
