Subject: Incorrect first gear ratio no od
IP: Logged

Message:
I recently got a 2000 4.7 dakota. Once i got it
running its giving me a incorrect first gear
ratio code and will not shift into overdrive. It
also seems to lack acceleration and shifts from
first to second hard. Any advice on where to
begin checking would be appreciated as i am not
familiar with dodge.

Yeah man. I'm having almost the exact same
problem at the moment, with the exact same
model, 2000 Dakota 4.7 regular cab. Except
I'm getting several other codes along with
the p0731 (incorrect 1st gear ratio).

I'm also getting:
•p0870 (trans fluid pressure sensor/switch
C circut)
•p0841 (trans fluid pressure sensor/switch
A circut range/performance)
•p0876 (trans fluid pressure sensor/switch
D circut range/performance)
•p0734 (gear 4 incorrect ratio)
•p0734 (gear 3 incorrect ratio)

And the worst part about the whole
situation is that it's my own damn fault.
The non pressure trans cooler line rusted
out and had a small hole in it but the
truck still ran perfectly fine and I
decided to replace them both anyway. The
mistake I made was listening to the guy at
autozone. Long of the short, they didn't
have the lines in stock and he told me a
different way to replace them. Didn't work
and the line blew up on me. I drove a
little less than a mile after it ejected
all of the fluid. Started smoking and not
shifting properly. I barely made it home.
Finally put the proper lines on and more
fluid but now it shifts from 1st
prematurely, 2nd seems fine but when it
shifts into 3rd I lose all power. I can
floor it to go a little faster but it
won't shift into 4th at all. I have no
idea why, besides maybe the torque
converter won't refill with fluid or I
just fried the tranny. So maybe you're
having the same issue. If you figure it
out lemme know.
