I am guessing you are talking about the MIL ( malfunction indicating light) on the dash. On my 2000 you turn the ignition key to on (not start) 3 times and the numeric code comes up (ex P0420)
To reset I disconnect the battery, turn the ignition key to start for 10 seconds, then off and reconnect battery and code is clear.
