Subject: 2002 4.7L Towing Question

Message:
Hello all. I've found some older posts regarding
towing, but nothing that left me feeling
comfortable with my exact question, so here
goes...

I have a 2002 Dakota Club Cab-4WD with a 3.55 axle
(thanks to earlier posts on helping me find the
axle info!). This rig has the towing package...

We're purchasing a 22' Mastercraft boat that has
dry weight of 2,690lbs and a tandem trailer
weighing 1,100lbs for a total of 3,790 lbs. After
loaded, I feel like this trailer will start to
approach the maximum tow load for my truck. I
intend to tow the boat back and forth between
Western & Eastern Washington, going over the
mountains (Stevens Pass if anyone familiar with
the area). Is this too much for my Dakota to
handle?

Additionally, we're looking into SUV's as our
family is growing, but hoping I can put that
purchase off for another year or so. Anyone do
much towing with a newer Durango? That's one of
the options we're looking at, seeing as the Dakota
has treated me well all these years.

Thanks for the info!
