Subject: Electrical Issues?

Hello, I am having serious electrical issues and could use some
help or advice. These forums are awesome and I use them lots but
I can't find anything like my situation…

On a road trip to Utah from Vancouver. Before leaving I changed
my wheel bearing. As I was leaving my alternator died 0 volts on
dash gauge. I turned around bought a new one hopped back in the
truck, to drive to my shop and it was now showing half voltage
about 8 volts instead of 13. Seamed weird as usually when an
alternator dies that is it But as I was going on a road trip I
changed it anyway.

Coming through Idaho I had a weird transmission issue. My
engine light was coming on and off. It felt like the clutch would
not disengage. I could not shift into any gear with truck running.
I got pushed of the road went through all the gears with the truck
off then restarted it. It was unhappy sitting at a light with the
clutch in and in gear. made some bad noises and was grabbing.
With no choice i got on the highway left it in high gear. However
by the next day this weird issue was gone. I am pretty sure it is
unrelated to my engine light but that is when things started going
down hill… or was it the alternator giving funny signs.. pointing
towards a PCM

Truck has been shifting fine and engine light off for 2 days then
BAM. I lose the alternator and engine light back on. truck goes
into limp mode. or is running on 4 cylinders.

I scanned it and got codes for no ASD voltage at PCM. Being on a
road trip 14 hours from home I took it to the dealer.

They said the computer was burnt and the connector, after 3 days
and 1200 they said it was fixed…. This new computer also fixed
my gas gauge which has not worked for 4 years. So It cost a lot but
I was back on the road and happy.

1 hour down the road BAM loose alternator and Engine light on, so
I go directly back to the dealer and wait another 2 days. Engine
code saying faulty emissions pump. They say, I had a faulty
alternator which shorted and fed power back into the computer
and fried it. Giving me that code but the pump tested fine. They
where nice enough to warranty the computer. So another 320
dollars and I am on the road again with a 3rd alternator and 3rd
computer.

Well this time I made it 6 hours home and engine light back on. At
this point I am scared of frying a 3rd computer so I take it to the
closest dealer. I am now getting codes P0205 and P0207. He says
he can fix it but not for a couple of days. ( I have heard that
before) Truck is still running but again I am afraid of burning out
my new computer and after spending 1500 and being stranded for
a week. I rent a Uhaul and tow my once loved truck home.

So there is my sob storey. I have always done all the work to my
vehicles but this seams a little over my head. I don't know were to
start. I am scared to take it to the dealer for being bent over. and
they have not fixed the problem and I don't feel like starting over
with another guy.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to start trouble
shooting this or how to check if a computer is good? Is there
anything electrical in the clutch that could be shorting the
computer or are these 2 different issues.

I feel like it is a wild goose chase as something is frying the
computer then I get random codes leading me around in circles
Any help would be much appreciated. Or if anyone knows a good
electrical mechanic in the abbotsford Vancouver area. Or do I have
to suck it up and go back to the dealer. Atleast I am home and can
go back to him.

Truck has been great to me until this with only routine work such
as breaks ball joints etc.
