Subject: Carb in / TBI out ???

Sorry for the long post and multiple questions.

Before I decide to swap from tbi to carb on an 89 Dakota 5.2l, I'm doing some research about the outcome of this. At present, I do not have access to the truck but will pick it up in January. It has driveability issues that I would prefer to address with an old school approach as I have much of my older small block stuff still available.

From reading many posts about this swap on this site, I have come to the conclusion that it is only moderately involved. I have concerns with some information that I would like to clear up. From what I have gathered from this site, my present intentions are as follows:

I plan on using a point distributor and triggering an msd6 for the ignition. Simple and effective since the points only trigger and do not wear out the contacts. (Please, no flames on Chryslers excellent electronic ignition.)

I plan on using a Holley regulator to keep the stock fuel pump circuit with return line. I also understand that I need to use an early electronic voltage regulator to have a charging circuit.

When removing the tbi system, I anticipate removing the intake, TB, tps, and map sensor. When this is done, I am concerned about the operation of the instruments, fuel pump circuit, cruise control, a/c, fans, speedometer, and kickdown.

I assume the cruise and speedometer will not be affected but I do not know this. I expect they are controlled by the vss but I do not know if the computer is involved. I've read that I can kiss off the tach when removing the factory distributor and have no options there.

I assume I have to leave the PCM installed to keep a/c, fan, and gauges. Is this a fact? I have considered looking for an 87 v6 wiring harness but I don't know if the wiring in the electrical block on the firewall is electrically compatible. Would this be the easiest and best way of doing this project? If I do leave the PCM installed, what is the best thing to do with the unneeded wiring? I have Ebayed an 89 and 87 fsm but they are not here. I drive truck over the road and won't get them before I leave. I will have them before I go and get the truck.

The kickdown is unknown to me at the moment. I do not know if the kickdown is like earlier Mopars with mechanical linkage or a newer throttle valve cable. If linkage, can it be manipulated to the drivers side for a Carter AFB linkage on a hi-rise intake? This use to be a pain with 2bbl linkages used on a 4bbl back in the day. If it is a tv cable, same thing. Does it move over easily or is a different bracket required? As a matter of fact, will the oem bracket be an issue at all with the tv cable, throttle cable, and cruise cable with a performer and AFB?

I have no issue with using a mechanical fan but I am not a fan (pun intended) of flex fans. Are there other alternatives?

Finally, being out of the performance world for quite a few years while raising kids, I know there were issues with the early O/D tranny's. I understand there is an oiling issue to the O/D that needs to be addressed. Any comments on this?

I am not a stranger to projects and have better than average mechanical skills and tools. What I am trying to ascertain is, can this be done in a weekend if proper preparations are made.

No one can tell me about the following when changing to carb and distributor???

"operation of the instruments, fuel pump circuit, cruise control, a/c, fans, speedometer, and kickdown."

"the cruise and speedometer will not be affected"

I assume I have to leave the PCM installed to keep a/c, fan, and gauges. Is this a fact?

"Is kickdown like earlier Mopars with mechanical linkage or a newer throttle valve cable?
