I think the highest limiter Dodge put on our trucks was around 115-117 if it even has one.

I posted a thread not too long ago about speed limiters. Its seems that an automatic SHOULD be 99 mph and a manual 110 mph (if I remember by numbers correctly). But, and its a big but, a lot of trucks just don't seem to have a speed limiter at all. And I don't even have a clue about the rev limiter, my truck (4.7L auto 4wd) hasn't hit it yet (but I've only maxed at 5200 rpm). My truck has done 115 mph and my co-worker (with a manual) has hit 120 mph. Both California trucks if that means anything.

My brother's 96 Ram 2500 doesn't have a speed limiter. It used to have an rpm govenor, but he figured out some way to get rid of that. Now he is running about 140 with a 360 5-speed.

For the ones with the 99 mph speed limiters I don't think that anyone flashes them. Mine was at 115 mph and Kenne Bell flashed it to 135 mph. Check http://www.kennebell.net and see if they have started flashing the 99's yet. The last I knew they didn't.

Later,
Lynn

When the car is in gear, you can turn the key 1 click and hold it there. Speddo will go to 0 and rpm's keep going. Since your speedo shuts off, you have just by-passed speed limiter. I'v gone no higher then 140, but i'v been there. Used to kick back at 100 or 99 whatever it is, but turning the key does work. You must hold it when it's turned however. :)

Mine will go 120+. 2000 4.7 5sp. A buddy of mine has the same thing, never hit any limiter. His was built 9/99 and mine 11/99. Both early builds, and never had the PCM flashed, thats the only thing we can come up with.

My 2000 3.9 V6 5 spd hit 110mph at which point I quit accelerating. The guy I was chasing, @sshole pulled up behind me on the interstate in the middle of the night on a section without lights and had no headlights on. So I tailed him...must have hit his speed limiter. Would not have been pretty if I kept going...

I have a 00' Quad cab, 4.7L. Drive back and forth 125 miles every other day. Would love to go faster than 99mph, but can't. The tranny kicks into lower gear at 95mph, but stops, abruptly at 99. Cruise control maxs out around 86-87mph. Can't even cruise fast. Really, really pisses me off, as I know this truck will go faster.
Will post back when I do my run again on whether or not turning the ignition switch forward while speeding like a bat out of hell!
Hope it works!

Chris, how did you know you were doing 140mph?? Also, I don't know about anyone else, but at those speeds, I definitly want both my hands on the wheel. Can you imagine having a blow out at 100+mph and not having both hands on the wheel?? The trucks that are governed to 99mph are that way for a reason. The tires aren't rated for faster speeds. If you put on some performance tires, go for it, but you are risking your own life trying to do it with the factory tires. Granted, I've had my R/T up to 4700RPM in OD(figured about 140mph) but I have the Mopar PCM, and can keep both hands on the wheel, and had high performance Z-rated tires installed.

I have preformace tires as well, on the rt wheels, so dose cris I think last I saw it. But yeah that thought dose enter my head(blow out= deth at this speed) and thats when I let off the gas. But it is also a rush that a man with a family should never do, I am not married nor have any kids(i think) but if I was those things will be out the window.

I had a 91 5.2 Dakota that did the same as you describe (cruise maxes out at about 87 mph). I would leave the cruise off till I got up to say 100. Then turn it on and set the speed. It would then work perfectly. Might try it on yours.
