Subject: A/C condenser draining into floorboard
IP: Logged

Message:
Good morning, all.

My first post, so be gentle. I've got an '02 4.7L
Dakota that I love. The A/C has apparently begun
draining into my passenger floorboard.

Any remedies you could suggest, short of drilling
a hole through the floorboard (though I'm not
prepared to rule that out)?

Please note I'm broke and not particularly handy.

Thanks!

Check the drain on the firewall under the hood.
Maybe it's plugged.

The drain is a little difficult to access. If you take off the PS wheel well cover you can see the drain coming out of the firewall behind the block. I have read posts where owners have installed elbows on this line to help draining, as with the current line air flow from engine compartment affects proper line draining. Plan on doing it on my 2000 4.7 liter too!

Thanks, guys. I couldn't find the drain the first
time I looked, but now that I have a better idea,
I'll give it another go.

Jerry, you were right about it being hard to get to.
I was able to get to it (just barely) and got a coat
hanger into it to open it up (how much, I have no
idea).

With the truck running, and the A/C blasting, how
much water should I see coming out of it? I was
seeing a slow dribble.

it's really going to depend on the heat and more so humidity. If it's not that warm and humid weather where you are you may only see a trickle draining out.

just make sure the line is clear, and draining. Consider the elbow mod though.

I had the same problem, I had to use a shop vac to suck up all the water on the passenger side. This is what you are refering to. if you look under the cowl where your air comes in you will find a foam insulater around youre air intake to the fresh air intake this is where water will siphien down into the plonum and into the florebord of your truck I put some sylicone around the foam and it fixed that leak dry flore now you will have to remove the wippers to get to it and the wiper wash tubes just reconnect and let the sylicone cure It was 2 years figureing this out for me and the tube is hard to get to I did that first the shield is hard to get past and there is no room. Good luck been there and done it
