 Subject: 3.9L to 5.9L Swap

I have a 2000 Dakota 4x4 with a 3.9 in it that is tired. I have looked around and there seems to be alot more used 5.9s out there then a good 3.9 Is there anyone here that has done this ? From what I have found out it will be almost a direct swap. The trans and ECM are different and that is all I can find that is not the same. I haven't gotten an answer on the wiring harness under the hood yet but the radiator, front shocks,exhaust front brakes(size) 4x4 transfer case, starter, alternater etc are all the same. Even the drive shafts are the same length since the motor will gain 2 extra cylenders but on the fron of the engine so the trans/transfer case will not move on the truck. I also did find out the motor mount brakets on the engine are different then the 3.9 I'm not looking for more power or torque just a better selection of used engines on the market in my area. I love my truck and putting another motor in it will be alot cheaper then buying a new truck.

Your best bet is to search for a totalled donor truck with the drivetrain you want between the years 00 and 03. Then swap everything over.
