Subject: Malfunctioning Oil gauge
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a '99 Dakota R/T. Oil pressure gauge is dropping to 0 when I brake but only once the engine is hot. Have tested this mechanically and found that the pressure remains normal when the gauge drops. Any suggestions?

What did the mechanical gauge read at idle? I'd also say it's probably the sending unit.

You need a new oil pump and screen.
Ive seen this a good number of times.

People try to fix this by engine flushes etc., but in the end the oil pump and screen being replaced solves the problem. $600.00

When the manual Gage shows good I would replace the
sending unit. If the manual Gage not showing good. It could
be the cam bearings
