Thermo is a 180 I think. Coolant sensors are now both new, surface cleaned and connectors cleaned, and wires good, and dash gauge has a temp reading.

I gave up on the light, I think it will pass now, however, the rpms are still jumping up and down.

To fix the light, I took the bulb out, slipped a piece of plastic on the bulb holder so it would not make contact with the PCB, then I ran 2 wires from the oil light on the other side of the dash to the engine light. This makes it look like the engine light is functional, but has no codes. I just really hope they don't find out, but I ran out of options and money for this truck.

Once it's all done, I'll take a video of how the truck is acting and post it on youtube. Oddly if I take a cap off the vacuum system and let it suck, she smooths out. ??

So I have some free time away from work. Playing with the truck a bit, I have noticed that the new IAC that I had put in a while back is responding really slowly to the RPM changes. I am wondering now if this was the problem the whole time... I may have replaced a dead IAC with a new but crappy IAC.

They are not cheap but I am going to go pick up a new one again. Are these things typically slow? I took it off, it and the port are very clean. If I unplug the IAC while it is installed right when the rpm is around 650, the truck idles perfectly, even when shifting through gears, rpm stayed constant. The truck however, wouldn't actually drive further than 20 feet without stalling with the motor unplugged.

My rpms jump, but if you give it a rev or a load like putting it in gear it drops to 200 rpm and takes a few seconds for the IAC to move. If I am lucky, the truck does not stall. all the other things I have done seem to make the truck run a little better, I bet this thing will run like a dream if I can only find the one problem screwing this all up.

On another note... I also finally ordered the new 4 port injectors I have been on the fence about. I ordered them this morning, and before noon I had a tracking number for the shipment. Very excited.

4 port injectors arrived, I will be putting them in soon. BUT now I feel like a big idiot replacing all of this stuff, I should have checked the 3 wire slice as soon as I read about it because I am having a new symptom that points to it. I am continuously blowing the Auto shutdown fuse.

I saw photos a year ago of where to find this splice, anyone know where I can find the link??

I can't seem to find it again after an hour of searching. I took some of the tape off the wires where it is described, but if I could get a photo, it would save me from unwrapping everything

A walk through =
Under hood fuse relay box
located on the inner drivers side fender well

remove it
untape the harness 6 to 8 inches

You are now looking for a splice of 3 to 4 wires
They are most likely red/white

cut the splice out and re'do it
it usually gets crudded up or breaks all together

Thanks Curly. I just did that. I used some extra wire to lengthen, soldered and heat shrinked and electrical taped them back up. They were very green, however they still looked to have a good connection with no corrosion between the wires.

I took the truck for an hour highway drive, then a 15 minute cruise in town. I would say this wire was half, if not most of the problem. The truck still wants to stall in reverse, It however runs a LOT better, wot is great, shifts better, idle is nice and steady, stopping at lights it doesn't stall.

I am going to put the injectors in tomorrow if I have the time, and reset the computer.

The truck is atleast usable now, as long as I don't need to backup.

Do you know if the reverse lights are working?

& you're positive it only happens in reverse?
No stumble or change in rpm's in other other gear?

Since the re-solder, RPM does drop when shifting into drive and come close to stalling at times, but then idles perfectly, and no problems in gear.

Reverse, lights work. The RPM does the same, but the idle is not steady, and stalls either right away, or within 2 feet of backing up.

Odd times I can get the truck to reverse if it's cold, but haven't figured out anything for sure as it's only been 2 days.

Untill the truck is fully warmed up it is in
"Open Loop"
(takes no reading from the sensors but uses a set
"table" to run on"

I asked about reverse lights thinking a possible
short.

Have you checked for vacuum leaks?

Something else that comes to mind.

With reverse generally being the lowest gear ratio
in a trans, There is a slight possibility the trq.
converter could cause the stalling.

(improper stall speed &/or lock up depending on the
type of trans and trq. converter installed)

There are no vacuum leaks. There were a couple cracked hoses and a bunch of patch work on the vacuum system when I got the truck, but I ripped all the brittle hoses out one by one and replaced them.

When you start talking transmission, this goes far beyond anything I have works with, so I am lost?

I still have not put in the new injectors because it's been cold and raining. I finally have a day off tomorrow where I cam tackle them. (suppose to be decent weather)

I have a 93 5.2l with similar stall issues except as long as I keep a little bit of foot on the pedal it stays running and rarely stalls in park or neutral. but here's an odd wrinkle. as long as I've had this truck and my dad before me,it takes at least 3 tries to start.the only time it will start on the first try is if you shut it off then try within a minute or so.any longer, third time is the charm.the fuel sender quit after my son decided to jump mud hills one day.I had a look with a mirror at the connectors on top of the tank at the fuel pump and see a busted vacuum line with the end full of dirt.so he may have damaged the other connections.any thoughts.I did remove and clean the AIS
