I replaced the orifice tube today in the condensor outlet line.

There was no old one, because I had replaced the condenser earlier and had not known to put one in. And I was wondering why the A/C didn't work when I realized why.

OK. the question is which way does it go?

This one has a plastic pointy end about an inch long with a couple o-rings on it and a couple holes in it, the other end is maybe 3" long and looks like filter elements. This is a "deluxe" uprated version that cost $20 at AutoZone, the "std" version was not stocked and cost a dollar.

Didn't want to wait until Tuesday so I bought deluxe on Saturday.

If I stick it pointing end in first, the filter end stocks up and out (the mating connection should cover it). But I took a guess and stuck it in filter end down (towards the condenser) and pushed it in until i felt o-rings seal, buttoned it up. evac'd, and recharged to 35-40 psi low side 175-200 hi side.

The low pressure lines are very cold to the touch.

The output from the A/C in the cab is cool, not cold.

This A/C had not worked for years. I replaced condenser, compressor, and accumulator. And the tube.

Am wondering if I stuck the tube in upside down, as I can imagine this would affect efficiency and that's what the issue seems to be...not running cold enough, in-efficient.

The 3 inch long part goes down first. That is the exit so the long part is the filter that stops any particles from getting the orfice.
Don't feel bad I did the same thing when I replaced my condensor. If you haven't put the orfice tube in yet you might as well change the accualator drier while you have it down.

Mac,
I didn't read you post well. Sounds like you could have a weak compressor. It should be 230 or 240 on high side.
Everything else you did sounds right.
