 Subject: 95 318 swap into 93 4x4 dakota

I just finished swapping in a 95 318 from a 2wd into my 93 4x4 that had a 3.9,(automatic) everything worked fine except for overdrive plug ins are different, How can I remedy this? Can I use the plugin from the original 3.9 ? Cut the plugin from the 318 off and splice the 3.9 plug in there? My overdrive doesnt work and I need it. I left the wiring harness on the V8 with its computer still attached, I just need to find a way to plug in my 93 overdrive to the 95 V8. Any Advice?

You should be able to use the connector. The center wire
should be hot when the key is on, the other two get their
grounds when the computer calls for overdrive and lock up
TC.

Thanks TC for the tip, today I cut the overdrive wire harness and male plug from the old 93 3.9 engine, it has (4) wires (pins), The 95 318 overdrive harness plug has (5) wire plug, and is square shaped plug, the 93 female plug has (4) . Ok, Also my 93 has a speedometer cable , The 95 V8 donor does not have a cable, it is electronic. So Im thinking (1) of those (5) wires is for the speedometer? My overdrive wires from the trans. are# 1-black with blue stripe, #2-white with red stripe,# 3-green with yellow stripe,# 4-black. On the 318 harness for the overdrive there are (5) wires, I would like to find the one that I dont need and splice the other 4 into the correct plug.......

So, I have a 1993 dakota with 5.9 swap from 5.2. I need a 5.9 PCM but the kicker is I can't find one.Probably because they no longer make one. So will the PCM from an ATX Ram or part number P5249546 work on my 93 dakota and is the 94-95 ram obdII? If I need to change the engine harness to 94-95 do I also need to change the dash to headlight harness also? I tried to do a stand alone fuel injection system on this and it turned out to be a mess.So I had to go back to square one... Thanks everyone for any help and advice..

Well I dont know if i can be of any help,when I swapped in my V8 I left the wireing harness and pcm all still hooked up to it. I left the original 93 firewall harness (along the back firewall) in place and the V8 plugged in everywhere for the most part, In your case you should be able to find a 5.9 pcm, I know that it is not always possible, but if I were you I would try to find a 5.9 wiring harness from a Dakota around 93-94-95 , and you will have alot less problems and headaches..., But as for the Ram parts...I dont know if they will work or not, Im thinking it (the Ram pcm ) would have trouble recognizing the 93 Dakota transmission, guages etc, but again ..I dont know. Just be patient...the right parts are out there to be found.....and goodluck. Let me know how it turns out, In my case ,I spliced in my original 93 connector ,and left the orange wire out( it didnt match ) and now my overdrive and converter lockup work great.
