I have an 02 Dodge Dakota quad cab, 4x4, 4.7L V8 with 120k miles. I have just yesterday developed a small engine tick in the right rear of the engine. You only hear the tick when you start the engine. You hear it for about half a mile or so, then it goes away. it does escelate as you accelerate. Then after the 1/2 mile it goes away and you don't hear it again till you start the truck again. I have no noticable difference in power at all. Its like maybe that valve or lifter isn't getting enough oil right away or something like that. I'm no mechanic, so I have no idea what this might be.

Does anybody have an idea what i'm looking at with this problem?

Thanks, Ryan

You are correct it is most likely a lifter that is leaking down when the engine is not running. You should replace the lifters. You can replace only the one that is making noise but if one is worn most likely all will need replacement soon.
