 Subject: Exhaust leak?

Good day all!

My 2000 4.7 liter Dakota has an exhaust smell on occasion in the cab, usually after engine start or when sitting with the engine running.

I would guess it's due to an exhaust leak, but how does the odor end up in the cab, and just not dissipate in the outside air?
